Marvel may finally be developing Guardians of the Galaxy

Aug. 4, 2011by:

Marvel may go from DOCTOR STRANGE to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

There was word that Marvel would be rifling through the back of the spice cabinet to find interesting comics to bring to the big screen.

Marvel's headmaster, Kevin Feige hinted back in 2010 about the possibility of a GUARDIANS film but the dust seemed to settle quickly afterwards. Now according to Twitch.com and their inside sources, the property has finally picked up some steam.

There's not much else to note. I never read any of the GUARDIANS comics. The team started in 1969 then were reborn in 2008. Here's some wiki info:

"The Guardians are active in the 31st century in an alternate time-line of the Marvel Universe (Earth-691). The original members of the team include Major Vance Astro, an astronaut from the 20th century Earth who spends a thousand years travelling to Alpha Centauri in suspended animation. He is also the future-counterpart of the hero Vance Astrovik, now called Justice. Martinex T'Naga, a crystalline being from Pluto; Captain Charlie-27; a soldier from Jupiter, and Yondu Udonta, a blue-skinned "noble savage" from Beta Centauri IV comprise the original team. Each is apparently the last of their kind and is forced to unite as a team against the actions of the Badoon, an alien race which attempts to conquer Earth's solar system. During the course of the war against the Badoon, the team recruit two more members - Starhawk and Nikki - and travel back in time and encounter several of the heroes of 20th century Earth, including Captain America and the Thing.

Oh! Also! We already have the cosmic cube in the movies. It all can fit so nicely!

Name one comic book movie that ended up better than the comic book itself. *Crickets chirping*
While this could be an awesome movie, the likelihood of that happening is slim.
I've never heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy before, but it sounds f***ing cool, and I'm much more inclined to check out the comic than I am to be excited about a movie adaptation.

Interesting, but would probably end up as a CG or animated film. Way too ambitious for live action. Actually better to make a live one for Warlock, Captain Marvel, Powerman & Ironfist, Cloak & Dagger, Namor, Inhumans, Kazar, Moon Knight and Brother Voodoo.
A Secret Wars, Age of Apocalypse, Infinity Gauntlet/War or Onslaught Saga would be great for a CG/animated film series (not to be abridged)

Guardians of the Galaxy

it's aight. The new team seems to have better dialogue than the original.

This could potentially create a good story, if the crossover within the different generations of GotG is applied well.

Marvel Loves Me

To all you haters and skeptics, the current and most recent cosmic universe story lines that started at and around the "Annihilation War" is truly epic and movie worthy. Starting there and going all the way up through the current books from "Nova" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" and the "War of Kings" (and other cosmic crossovers) has been some of the most fun and "must read" comics I've ever experienced.
You all don't think it's a good idea because you don't know about it. Marvel knows their

You all don't think it's a good idea because you don't know about it. Marvel knows their current cosmic stories are amazing, and they know they aren't getting enough attention. The influx of the characters getting in Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and a possible movie happening will give these characters, and their stories, the love and attention they so deserve!

On another note, I must be in a dream because my favorite Marvel stories could be becoming a movie! I could not believe at first that they actually DID pick Nova for Ultimate MVC3 and they threw in Rocket Raccoon to boot! Plus the comics I think are really building up to something huge with the cosmic characters. Who knows what yet.

You don't know what you're missing go check out some Marvel Cosmic comics right now!!

Dan O'Bannon would have been the perfect scribe for this endeavor.

If they do the original version from the 90's comics (which from the character list it sounds like it) then this should be a fun sci-fi movie. Something we haven't had since the 80's.

Love Marvel. Dislike Marvel Cosmic Hooey.

Come on Marvel, there are so many better films you could make than Guardians of the Galaxy. How about a good Punisher film I have been waiting decades for? Ray Stevenson was an awesome Punisher, but that script and director were the definition of hokey. Or how about a Black Panther or Power Man and Iron Fist film? How about a good Daredevil film? Daredevil could be a great franchise with the right team behind it. How about the Venom film we were told was in development? Or how about

Or how about getting the rights back to Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, X-men, etc and giving us proper films for those guys? Maybe after a few cosmic FF adventures we would be open to GotG. Right now I probably would not even see it in a theater.

I would think that DC's Green Lantern debacle would scare Marvel away from space stuff for the time being. I'd see the movie, but I don't think they'd do it right. Unless of course "Annihilation" would be the endgame for Marvel-Future films, much like Avengers was for the current crop.

Listen, I love Marvel and have never hidden that fact but there are so many better ways to spend Disney money. Iron Fist or Black Panther? Marvel's just getting flat out cocky if they go forward with this idea. Sell Rocket Raccoon and Cosmo the talking dog to DC/WB for their Green Lantern 2 craptacular and focus on real characters that work.

This sounds cool and all, but I'd rather see a "Ant Man" and "Doctor Strange" movie first.

I do like the idea of them going back in time meeting past superheroes like Captain America and The Thing.

Please Marvel, instead of making movies from comic books no one heard of, start incorporating the newly reacquired Blade and Punisher into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Is it true that Marvel has the rights back for the Punisher and Blade? If so, that is great news!

Wow

This sounds awful, there are way too many things going on in this comic for 1 movie, introducing all of the characters and their backgrounds...This would be better suited to a TV show I think.

Raimi didn't try to shit on Venom. He only wanted to do Sandman until the studio forced Raimi to put Venom into the movie. Check your facts.

Soloist: It also said "A Sam Raimi Film" on Spider-Man 3, making it at least partially his. Yeah, Avi Arad crammed Venom in there to sell t-shirts and toys, but Raimi could have found a better way to integrate him. Not sure if the dancing scene is Arad's fault, but it DID happen in Raimi's movie. And even without Venom, the Sandman angle with Uncle Ben was quite awful.

Raimi did indeed shit on Venom. Intentional or not. I recall reading that Raimi hated the character of venom, and resented having to put him in the film. It definitely shows on screen. I think now days Marvel would just geta new director, but back then they were scared to. I wish they had, because Venom is a great (and scary) character that deserved a better film. A Spider-Man film with Venom as the baddie, done right, would be HUGE!
