Marvel officially announces production on Doctor Strange; confirms cast

You may have noticed the recent (Cumber)batch of on-set pictures featuring the mighty Benedict sporting some wicked facial hair. This may come as a shock to some of you, but Marvel Studios has announced that DOCTOR STRANGE has gone into production! How about that?!?

The film, being directed by Scott Derrickson (SINISTER, THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE), will follow neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. The flick stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton. Shooting has already begun in Kathmandu, Nepal, with stops to be made in Hong Kong, New York and London.

Given Marvel's success with their "core heroes", they're now branching out to some of the lesser known characters of the MCU, which will undoubtedly yield more unique story-lines. Given that Cumberbatch could make the phone book sound compelling, I'm sure he's going to deliver a hell of a character with Stephen Strange.

DOCTOR STRANGE is scheduled to hit theaters on November 4, 2016.

Totally random speculation here, but what if Mads is playing Doom? His "mystery casting" came after the announcement of the Fox X-Men shows, and despite what they're saying, Im still inclined to think some deal related to the FF4 has been made (just like the Spiderman deal was denied repeatedly until it wasnt). But instead of the supervillain Dr Doom, he's an eastern european man Strange meets in Tibet, who is also studying the mystical arts. Dont even name him, just have some green magic

Dont even name him, just have some green magic effects and the like.

Of course its more likely he'll be a one-and-done villain in a mocap suit, but one can hope.

James Spader would have made a better Doctor Doom than an Ultron.

Out of all of the new comic book characters and films debuting in Phase Three, I'm looking forward to Doctor Strange the most. Can't wait to see this film add more of a supernatural element to the MCU and what kind of ripple it has throughout.

And this easily has one of my favorite assembled casts for any Marvel film thus far. Seeing Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange banter with any of the Avengers (especially Stark and Banner) should be a hell of a lot of fun.

Interesting choice for a director as well, hoping for some great different stuff here.
