Marvel Says Edgar Wright's Ant-Man is happening, eventually

It's been a long information drought regarding Edger Wright's big screen version of ANT-MAN. So long, in fact, that most people were doubting it would ever come to pass.

But speaking to Marvel's Kevin Feige, SuperheroHype got it out of him that yes, the project is moving forward, though it’s likely we won’t see it for quite a while.

"Edgar was in LA last week, we sat down, and we started working on a calendar of when to get him back into it once he finishes promoting Scott Pilgrim, so I think towards the end of this year, early next year we'd start looking at early prep for that, but certainly for a release date after The Avengers."

Sadly, no mention of a possibly pairing with Pixar, as we wished for in an April Fool’s posting this year, but Wright is a director who seldom does wrong, so presumably whatever direction he decides to take the project will be a good one. But if we’re being honest, I’d love for him to finish his Cornetto Trilogy with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost first. THE WORLD’S END awaits.

Read more from Feige over here, where he discusses the recent talk about Marvel's new low-budgeted superhero flicks.

Extra Tidbit: Feige also says Joss on AVENGERS is not 100% sure yet.

King of the Ants

AITH reported this progress yesterday. The article suggested giving Ant-Man a retro sci-fi approach. That complements the source material. However, perhaps Wright should make Ant-Man more bad-ass, and he should perhaps even use horror elements. Shrinking resembles invisibility. So, Ant-Man could be listening or attacking from anywhere. Ant-Man's insect pals are certainly creepy if not terrifying. Ever watch a swarm of flying ants, fire ants, army ants, or even carpenter ants in-person or on-TV?

And, swarms of hornets, termites, beetles, cockroachs, or mosquitos are problematic. Marvel's Ant-Man can be like DC's Aquaman. A writer does the campy or finds a different effective characterization and setting.

I guess he might as well just cast Simon pegg as ant-man. Hopefully fans wont mind that he's british.

Defenders

Get ready for a Doctor Strange-centric "Defenders" movie that fits into what Feige is now calling the "Marvel Cinematic Universe". "The Defenders using "magic", science, brains, and brawn defeat a [link] threat and save the day the way that Avengers can not." [link] luminati hurry before they take it down!) The team that Shield assembles to defend earth will ultimately be an eccentric group of of fringe science academia types culled together to form the "Defenders", the odd ducks to the more golden-child Avengers team if you will. Project "Defenders" consist of Doctor Strange leading the team, Namor, and the Hulk (Bruce Banner), and Henry Pym (AntMan). The story incorporates things from the bestselling magical/occult/secret society/new age stuff ala' Dan Brown. They'll be looking for a non-super hero type actor like Adrien Brody to play Dr. Strange, he'll be used to merge the magical other-dimensions like the Asgard Thor universe into the "realistic" IronMan universe to create an ongoing one-shots and upcoming [link] movies.

Ok, sounds fun, but:

1) What's your source of this info?

2) What's with all the dead links to joblo throughout?

I'd see this definitely. I'm not a big Ant Man fan, but I'd see anything Wright churns out at this point.

While Ant-Man is a movie I'm looking forward to, I can wait until 2013. It's probably not gonna happen until then. I'd guess we'll get The Incredible Hulk 2 around the same time.
