Marvel slates Ant-Man sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp for 2018 plus Phase 3 news

10.08.2015

ANT-MAN aimed to offer up a different kind of superhero film and whether or not it succeeded is up to the viewer's discretion...but if you're wondering when we can see Paul Rudd don the suit in a non-ensemble film again, we have an answer for you! Scott Lang will return alongside Hope Van Dyne on July 6, 2018 in Marvel’s ANT-MAN AND THE WASP. This sequel actually marks the first time that a Marvel Studios film has been named after its heroine.

Following this news, a few other Phase 3 films have had their dates shifted with BLACK PANTHER moving to February 16, 2018 and CAPTAIN MARVEL opening on March 8, 2019. Finally, there are three untitled Marvel films that are set to premiere on May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020. Let the speculation commence!

As you can see from the Tweet above, director Peyton Reed is fully aware of the sequel, but there's been no announcement of whether or not he'll return to direct ANT-MAN AND THE WASP. I was wondering why Evangeline Lilly wasn't utilized more in the first film, given her familiarity with the technology and her physical prowess. I'm guessing Marvel picked up on that in a big, bad way given the title of the sequel. Now that Edgar Wright's name isn't attached to ANT-MAN, there won't be any preconceived notions going forward. That's a good thing as far as I'm concerned! Regardless of how you feel about the first film, Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly have some decent chemistry and should provide for one of the more entertaining duos in the Marvel-verse!

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP will hit theaters on July 6, 2018.

Inhumans will probably be pushed back

In the wake of another successful mcu film (spider-man, doctor strange, black panther?) I think those 2020 dates will be shifted throughout the course of how successful the newer movies perform. If Doctor Strange performs well then it most def will be getting a sequel ahead of Inhumans, as well as Spidey. Also Guardians should probably be concluding its Trilogy with one of those dates but who knows. Maybe Marvel is working out a deal to get Fantastic Four back. Or maybe a solo Hulk movie??

Hella options I guess lol

Ant-Man was surprisingly enjoyable. In fact I'd pay to see it again. I'm glad there will be a sequel, but wish it wasn't 3 years away.

1) Ant Man and the Wasp should get their own movie ahead of Hawkeye and the Black Widow. I'm okay with them not making a third Ant Man movie: not everything has to be a trilogy.

2) Peyton Reed is probably coming back. He said he wanted to come back and they aren't going to announce a date without knowing who was going to direct.

3) May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020? Maybe Hawkeye and the Black Widow, Spectacular Spider-Man 2 and Doctor Strange 2. Production has already

Production has already got underway for Doctor Strange and the actors have no doubt been signed on for sequels so now would be a good time to announce a sequel. Another possibility is Blade 4. I'd say it would be Doctor Strange 2 if Doctor Strange is a hit and Blade 4 if Doctor Strange bombs.

Ant Man was a character I detested in the Marvel world. Most of it was that I hated Pym. I had no expectations of liking the movie, in fact I exp[ected it to be the first MCU movie I didn't go see. But my now ex girlfriend wanted to see it so we went. I gotta say, and eat my own words in the process, it was one of my favorite MCU movies. Top 5 for sure maybe top 3. It was fun and the heist genre movie was a nice surprise. TWS was a 70's style political thriller set in a comic book action world.

This gave me the classic heist movie with MCU characters and a ton of laughs. I do agree Lily was underused consider she was far more capable than Lang, but I am super excited to see where they go with Wasp as I always loved her character. The Avengers roster is growing.

I'm surprised by all the love Ant-man received. I guess some people were expecting a disappointment after Wright left. I expected a decent film, and that's what I got, nothing more or less. I'm indifferent to a sequel, but I'm looking forward to Lilly being Wasp. However, with the exception of Winter Soldier, all MCU sequels have been a step below the previous movie, so I'm not setting my expectations too high.

I enjoyed ANT MAN

I dragged my 80-year-old mother to the flick and she really liked it, despite knowing nothing about Marvel comics and never having seen any of the previous movies.

It's high time Marvel gave a female heroine equal billing in one of their movies (no BLACK WIDOW solo film? WTF are you thinking, Marvel?), and Evangeline Lilly deserves the shot. She has the charisma and acting chops to pull it off. I just hope it's as good as the first one.

My mother is almost 70 and she LOVES the MCU and even the DCTVU (Flash and Arrow). She didn't like Man of Steel as she thought "that wasn't how superman always was, when did he start acting like batman?". But she loved Ant Man along with every other movie MCU. This is because despite sort of knowing who characters like Cap or Thor, she didn't have to know everything about them to enjoy the movies. The comedy amidst the action is what has her hooked. She loves the character interaction between what should be campy. She also loves the fact that its all one single story with branches, its all one world. My dad used to love this stuff too, and since my dad died recently, I go over every Tuesday to watch Flash and AOS with he. Though I guess mow since we both caught up on Arrow I guess Wednesday's are gonna happen too lol.

I wonder if this means Peyton Reed will be helping the sequel. I enjoyed the first film quite a bit but I welcome the change of adding the Wasp and shifting up the dynamic. Just make sure Michael Peņa comes back too! I'm sure Marvel is just locking in their dates for phase 4, they love to get that first weekend in May slot. Sony does still outright own the film rights to Spidey and will want to churn those movies out, I imagine they're hoping to slot Spider-Man 2 in that July 2020 date.

I'm looking forward to the sequel. Ant-Man the movie took me by surprise of how good and entertaining it was.

Awesome news. The first one was a hell of a lot of fun and turned out to be much better than I thought it would have (considering all of the pre-production problems). And it'll be great to see another kick ass female hero join the MCU alongside Black Widow, Gamora, Scarlet Witch, and the pending Captain Marvel.

Over saturating the market

I know everyone has their opinion about the endless number of superhero movies being released yearly and the ones mapped out for the next five years, but this is just getting ridiculous. I understand Marvel has always had a plan, but now their films are becoming too inconsistent. For every The Winter Soldier or Guardians of the Galaxy there's two or three mediocre or just bad films: Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Age of Ultron. I really wish Marvel would not be so fixated on connecting all their movies

Shut up, stupid. Your opinion doesn't matter.

You do understand that Marvel Studio while now part of Disney (much like the rest of Disney) is still it's own studio with little to make but Superhero movies. Can't run a successful studio only releasing 1 movie a year (or you can, but it is incredibly dangerous). As for connecting them, why not, I love it. It's different, its fresh, and Marvel is in the unique position of actually pulling it off. Releasing them so quickly means that in almost a dozen movies they have only really had to recast

That is incredibly hard to pull off. Does it seem like when you pull the scope back as too much and does connecting them force scripting issues? Sure. But there is so much more they can and have been doing with great success.
