Matt Damon gets all spooky in the trailer for Clint Eastwood's supernatural drama Hereafter

Sep. 10, 2010by: Dave Davis

Matt Damon wanted to work with his INVICTUS director again, which is understandable since it's film legend Clint Eastwood. This time they've done a supernatural thriller described as "in the vein of THE SIXTH SENSE", which explains the Shyamalan-ish tone of the trailer.

The synopsis: HEREAFTER tells the story of three people who are haunted by mortality in different ways. Matt Damon stars as George, a blue–collar American who has a special connection to the afterlife. On the other side of the world, Marie (Cécile de France), a French journalist, has a near–death experience that shakes her reality. And when Marcus (Frankie/George McLaren), a London schoolboy, loses the person closest to him, he desperately needs answers. Each on a path in search of the truth, their lives will intersect, forever changed by what they believe might—or must—exist in the hereafter.

Check out the trailer below or in HD at Apple.

Extra Tidbit: While this movie obviously doesn't have the same kind of carnage, Cťcile de France is probably best known as the "heroine" of Alex Aja's horror flick HAUTE TENSION.

hmmm. Doesn't look great.

I'm tired of sweeping mother nature in all of her CGI glory destroying the scenery, I especially don't want to see that when there is a layer of pretentious undertones about the afterlife. This could be laughably pretentious. I'll always see Clint's work though.

Looks surprisingly good

For a movie that comes out during Halloween spooky time. Love Clint Eastwood as a director, so I'll check this out. Hopefully it start out as limited and goes wider, because that's what the film looks like. I could be wrong, though.

Oh, and the CGI mother nature scene, I bet they work it into the storyline in an intricate approach.

Yes.. I'll be checking this out. Eastwood is an extremely intelligent and intricate director and one I'd love to see tackle the theme of death, and the possibility of life after it. I think the tsunami scene came off as ridiculous because it popped up out of nowhere in that trailer. I feel like that was just to gather some interest to the retards that were lost at the context of the plot.

Looks good, but isn't calling Matt Damon "Academy Award winner" for an acting gig seem sort of like a misrepresentation?

trailer looks good! i'll see this for sure. only bit i didn't like was at 1m34s into the trailer where cecile and the child are running down the street chased by the tsunami. if you look closely, all characters except the two main are cgi and look like people out of the sims-game. weird and plastic looking.

I never thought Eastwood can pull off something like this. The man can do anything. Now I'm looking forward to this.

Way to go Clint...

It's very obvious that Clint continues to push the boundaries of his directing styles after seeing this trailer. And it looks fantastic. Very excited.

I think I'm going to like the pace of the movie most of all. It looks very laid back and explains things as it needs to, rather than cramming a bunch of information in to move the story along.

Clint Rocks!

Damon Rocks! So two reasons I will be watching this.

But I'm a little confused. Are the incidents shown in the trailer meant to be the Asian Tsunami, and the London Bombings? If so, it just looks like these have been added for a more heart-tugging effect. They just seem unnecessary, especially as the CGI for them looks awful! A simple near-death experience would surely have been just as effective, and less silly looking..

Tidbit

Another cool flick came out recently with Cecile de France in Europe. It's a police thriller called "Guardien's de l'ordre" and it's pretty cool. I recommend it!

This looks very very very good. I'm a big Damon and Eastwood fan although I'll admit to not enjoying Invictus as much as I thought I would. This however looks pretty interesting and how crazy would it be if Clint gets nominated again for a thriller?

With the exception of the last 15 minutes of the movie, High Tension is still one of the best horror films out there right now.

What's "absurd and immature" about an unreliable narrator trying to recall - and make sense of - events while suffering from a type of dissociative identity disorder?

The film is great *because* of the last 15 minutes, not in spite of them.

Is the plot twist absurd and immature? Yes but the last 15 minutes of High Tension are badass.

Totally looks "Shyamalan-ish". He's not directing though so it actually stands the chance of being good.

seems cool, but not really very spooky. I've liked everything Clint has directed so far, (even Gran Torino which some people didn't like) so I'm sure this will be good!

I feel he is just making to many films in such a short time and after seeing this trailer my predictions came true hes lost his talent cos the trailer for this is easily the worst ive seen ever an its a shame that he wont be able to re capture his best films ever again
