20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for THE MARTIAN, and although the latest look at the movie mostly contains footage from the previous trailer, there are some new shots from Ridley Scott's big screen adaptation of the Andy Weir novel. The film boasts an absolutely stellar cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Kristen Wiig, Michael Pena, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sebastian Stan and Matt Damon as Mark Watney, the astronaut who is stranded on Mars after the red planet is hit by a powerful dust storm.

"I am the greatest botanist on this planet."

JoBlo.com's JimmyO recently attended THE MARTIAN presentation at NASA's JPL, and you can also check out his set visit report from earlier this year here. While Ridley Scott's films as of late haven't really wowed me, I have very high hopes for his new movie. I've heard the book is fantastic, and I'm really digging the trailers. But films set on Mars aren't known for being huge hits at the box office, so I'm interested in seeing how it will perform when it opens in a couple of months.

THE MARTIAN will premiere at TIFF 2015 before hitting theaters on October 2, 2015.

For a while the bloated trailer phase subsided, now we get this 3 minute behemoth. It should've stopped somewhere after the two minute mark, where I stopped it.

This looks good but I can't get excited about a Ridley Scott project anymore. His movies always look great but they often feel flat, even though he can still reunite a great cast. Still, my mind remains open.

I can understand that, but the thing about Ridley's movies, is that the vast majority of them have a kind of incubation or fermentation period, where they're not readily enjoyable immediately, but as they age over time they gain something that makes them incredibly watchable.

If you can stand Damon, I'd say give it a shot, then revisit it 10 years down the road.

Halfway through the book and loving it.

Almost avoided this trailer as a result.
This looks brilliant though. Imax for this baby!

Looks like a nice return to top form for Mr. Ridley Scott. Love the use of 'All Along the Watchtower' in the trailer; it made for a nice touch.

The second Sean Bean appeared on my screen, I set my stopwatch for his epic death scene.
Seriously though, this looks even better than I imagined it would. I'll be there opening night for sure.

Considering how well the book as been received, the stellar cast and how good this looks, this is going to kill in theatres.
