Matt in the Zone

04.03.2008
Rumour has it that Matt Damon is the most bankable movie star in the world. Iíve got my money on Will Smith, but according to a recent interview in Esquire, George Clooney thinks the title belongs to Matt. But has Matt really headlined a super-success outside of the BOURNE franchise? THE DEPARTED does not count. Either way, Matt will get his chance with GREEN ZONE, a re-teaming with the director of the last two BOURNE movies, Paul Greengrass. The film is based on the book Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraqís Green Zone, and is about a CIA agent on the hunt for WMDs. Er, I think we all know how that turns out. Click on Matt's receding hairline for all the shots.
Extra Tidbit: The film costars Jason Isaacs, Greg Kinnear, Amy Ryan, and Brendan Gleeson.

Looks good to me

According to my count, Puff, this will be only the second Iraq-centric film to come out between now and December 2009 (the other being Stop-Loss). Problem has been that none of the Iraq films so far have been all that great (some have been good, but lacking). This one, I think, will be the first really good one. Leo's BODY OF LIES doesn't really count as it's less about the war than about the CIA.

BTW, the film also stars Khalid Abdallah (Amir in the Kite Runner), who incidentally worked

My only question is this: how will Greg Kinnear fit in with this project. He's a capable actor, but I don't think he's done a high-profile drama yet.

Damon does have one non-BOURNE success under his belt: GOOD WILL HUNTING

It's a great cast from a good director. Hell yeah, I'll see it - regardless of what the ending will be. And hey, maybe this'll further sink it into people's heads that there have never been any WMDs, for those ignorant space monkeys who never pay attention to the news.

i dont know, isnt there like 100 iraq movies coming out in the next 2 years or something, those movies rarely go wide and dont really make money at the box office
I love Damon, but i dont think its the best thing for the 'bankable' aspect of his career, however, this movie could be of great quality
