Matthew Fox signs up for zombie killing in World War Z

Jun. 14, 2011by: Paul Tassi

He may be one of the most controversial characters in one of the most controversial shows in history when he played the "love him or hate him" Jack Shepard on Lost, but Matthew Fox's film career hasn't quite picked up yet, as he's been limited to supporting roles in SPEED RACER, VANTAGE POINT and that's just about it.

But Bloody Disgusting is reporting that their trusted sources tell them that he's about to join a higher profile project, in the form of WORLD WAR Z where he will play "Parajumper." As I haven't read the book, I don't know how big a role that is, but at least he gets to be alongside Brad Pitt presumably.

In addition to Pitt playing a researcher for the UN Post War Comission, the film's cast includes The Killing's Mireille Enos and Rubicon's James Badge Dale.

I believe Dale is actually the star of the show, playing a soldier who tries to alert authorities of the pending zombie threat. Interesting to have him lead with more known actors like Pitt or Fox lying around. Needless to say, I think most of us are greatly looking forward to this film.

Update: An additional report from Deadline says that Ed Harris is also in talks for the film.

Extra Tidbit: I have this on my Kindle, but I kind of want to wait so I don't spoil the movie.

They can get Daniel Day Lewis, Edward Norton and Sean Penn - I don't care - the conversation ends at "we're aiming for PG-13". Which they totally fucking are.

I know it sounds kind of weird, but I just really like movies, hence why I do this. I'll read it after, but I feel like this about a few upcoming movies. Kind of want to read The Hunger Games, but kind of want to be surprised by the movies.

If memory recalls, parajumper is a female in the book who gets stranded in some woods near an abandoned motorway. It's one of the more atmospheric and tense chapters of the book and would make a welcome change from standard 'zombie killin''.

If it is, no idea why they've changed the sex, as the fact she was a woman added to very interesting character inflections and perspective.

There is no Parajumper. Every interviewee gets an actual name, for starters, and the only person who jumps out of a plane with a parachute is a woman who should be played by Jordana Brewster if I have anything to say about it.

Again, I'm left to conclude they're radically changing the book. They haven't cast one person yet in a role that appears in the book. I'm really upset about that.

Funny, when I read the book, I always imagine Fox as The Interviewer.

ugh.

i'm just about finished with this book i have to say its one of the most fun reads i've ever had.

having said this, as much as i want to see a movie adaptation, i'm already skeptical about what i'm seeing here.

first thing that scares me is the pg-13 rating. no way. its going to suck. half this book goes into awesome detail on how how the brain has to be destroyed, and trust m, plenty of them are blown to pieces. secondly, matthew fox sounds more appropriate for the UN worker. Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt just seems a little off to me. third, FOx is playing the paratrooper? TheTrooper5, you are correct. in the book its a female soldier. and its one of my favorite chapters because of the fact that its a woman. that's not to say you should just cast michelle rodriguez in the role, but c'mon hollywood. stop fucking this shit up.

i still want to throw my hat in for a roll in this. i'm an actor. i got the chops. shit i'll do background. check me out.

hmm i dont remember a parajumper in the book, maybe they are changing the downed pilot to a parajumper, and making it a male for the movie. i was more hoping he'd be the Todd Wainio character. he's got a big part in the story and Fox would be about the right age

I have a feeling you're on the right track here. I think he REALLY would have been perfect for Todd. If they are changing the parajumper story, that story had a lot of tense moments and Fox would be the only character onscreen for the majority of it. It could either b a great story or real bad depending on how you feel abt Matt Fox.

I have the same "wait for the movie" sentiment. Weird considering Hollywood's chances of botching adaptations are extremely high, but if I know a book I haven't read is being turned into a movie, I always want to watch the movie first instead of reading the book beforehand. Anyway, Matthew Fox is a great actor. His character in Lost was awesome.

I hope it will be, but I doubt it will. I was disappointed that this movie was picked up by Pitt, I love the guy, but he will just use this as a vehicle for himself. I think this book would make a much better mini-series than an actual film. I feel like anyone who has read the book would agree.

i totally agree with Comeaution22, this would be amazing as a 3 or 4 part mini series, but Hollywood wants the fast buck so i doubt we'll see half the amazing stories that happen in the book.

I'm with most the other posters...

They take a female pilot, make her a male paratrooper. That takes away the 'mother issues', and takes some of the feel from having to deal with the co-pilot stuck in the tree. Please kill this movie before they murder another great book!
