Matthew McConaughey will strip for Steven Soderbergh and Channing Tatum

Matthew McConaughey’s seemingly perpetual shirtlessness will be on screens again soon, courtesy of filmmaker Steven Soderbergh.

With MAGIC MIKE, Soderbergh will dive into the world of male strippers along with stars Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer. The story is loosely based on Tatum’s own early days grinding for dollars in the banana hammock, although (dizzyingly) Tatum will play the older exotic dancer of the title, who teaches the young Tatum (played by Pettyfer) how to hustle.

McConaughey will play the retired (but undoubtedly still often bare-chested) stripper who owns the club where the thong-wearing Tatums strut for bucks. He’ll also appear soon in the shockingly non-romcoms MUD and THE PAPERBOY, each also refreshingly free of Kate Hudson.

Meanwhile, Soderbergh (who recently loaned his skills to THE HUNGER GAMES) still has at least two other projects — LIBERACE and THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. — he’s considering before his much-publicized yet probably unlikely retirement from directing.
