Matthew McConaughey would come back for more True Detective

The future doesn't look bright for more seasons of TRUE DETECTIVE on HBO. After two very different seasons (the second of which was not as well-received as the first), it appears HBO is ready to move onto other things under Casey Bloys' reign as the cable network's new president of programming. But would things change if Matthew McConaughey said that he'd like to come back to the series and revisit the character of Rust Cohle? Because that's what he's expressing he might like to do. Hmmm… Talk about giving HBO something to think about…

In a recent interview on The Rich Eisen Show, McConaughey had nothing but fondness for the fictional guy he so desperately misses.

Yeah, I would. I miss Rust Cohle, man. I miss watching him on Sunday nights. I miss watching True Detective on Sunday nights!

Y'know, I was a happy man when we made that (show) for six months, because I was on my own island. Luckily my wife put up with me…

But, yeah, I would. I've talked to Nic (Pizzolatto) about it, but it would have to be the right context, in the right way.

There is no question that, as good as Woody Harrelson was in that first season, it was McConaughey's performance that really made TRUE DETECTIVE a must-watch during its run. I have no idea where that character could possibly go next, but, based on McConaughey's performance on the series, I'd easily be willing to go along for the ride to find out if that was given the green light.
