McAvoy & Radcliffe create monsters in first Victor Frankenstein trailers

08.18.2015

We've seen a couple of images from Paul McGuigan's (PUSH, LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN) VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN, and now the first trailers have been released for the upcoming movie. James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe play (respectively) the titular scientist and his assistant Igor, and the film also stars Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey, WINTER'S TALE), Daniel Mays (THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN), BBC Sherlock's Andrew Scott, Mark Gatiss and Louise Brealey.

"You toy with wrathful forces.”

Synopsis:

Told from Igor's perspective, we see the troubled young assistant's dark origins, his redemptive friendship with the young medical student Viktor Von Frankenstein, and become eyewitnesses to the emergence of how Frankenstein became the man - and the legend - we know today.

Out of the two, the U.K. trailer is the better one, but to be honest, neither is really doing much for me. While I may not have high expectations for the movie, I still think it could be a fun ride, especially since the script was written by CHRONICLE and AMERICAN ULTRA scribe Max Landis. Are planning on seeing VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN when it is released later this year?

VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN is set to open on November 25, 2015.

Not convinced and I usually like Paul Mcguigans work, it just doesnt come across as Horror, its seems to have a similar tone to the awful Underworld series.
One Frankenstein movie I thought was underrated was Frankenstein Unbound with John Hurt.

Looked good enough to get me interested....

I wouldn't say excited, but at least it's interesting. I like McAvoy in everything, but I didn't see much from Radcliff that looked promising. If it's based around Igor, I hope they tell a more interesting story than that trailer.

BTW, like everyone else, the FIRST thing I thought when I started watching this was Sherlock Holmes. I think it was a combination of the music (sounded a little derivative), and the way it was shot (plus the humor which seemed oddly out of place with the subject

I don't hate it.

I'm usually very skeptical when it comes to revisionist Gothic horror (there's at least one out every year, and most aren't very good). I don't know if it's the cast, or the fact they are really trying to play around specifically in the Frankenstein world, not string them along with vampires and werewolves. Someone mentioned Sherlock Holmes, and this does have a little of that going on. McAvoy certainly seems to be having fun with his Victor Frankenstein. Still, it seems prudent to wait on this

I am not disappointed, but it is also not what I wanted. I will definitely see it!

Must every classic story be made as a buddy comedy?

Basically,
Frankenstein: I can do the thing.
Igor: You can do the thing?
F: Let's do the thing.
I: Ehh okay let's do the thing.
F: I did the thing!
I: Ew. That's the thing?
F: Now let's do another thing!
I: I don't think you should do the thing again
F: I did another thing!
I: ...
F: I shouldn't have done the thing, should I?
I: ...

THE END

Was expecting something perhaps a bit more serious in tone, but it does look fun for what they're going for. Plus, I'll watch anything that has McAvoy in it.
