Matthew McConaughey has signed on to star in the upcoming surfing drama SURFER, DUDE for producer Tom Hanks. The film will have McConaughey playing a surfer in the midst of an existential crisis. Sounds like this could be a big stretch from the previous roles he’s played like a surfer coaching a college football team, a surfer mixed up in a sports gambling scheme, and a surfer still living at home with his parents. McConaughey will produce the film alongside Hanks through his jk livin company. SR Bindler, who last directed the documentary HANDS ON A HARD BODY, will direct the film from his own script. McConaughey is currently filming the action comedy FOOL’S GOLD with Kate Hudson in Australia and will return stateside this spring to begin work on SURFER. McConaughey will work on THE GRACKLE and GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST later this year after SURFER wraps production.
