McG on T5

05.04.2009
Because it is pretty much guaranteed that TERMINATOR: SALVATION will be a massive sequel-spawning hit, McG has already started talking about what he is planning to do next. I suppose that you could consider there MILD SPOILERS here, so read at your own discretion:

"I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011," McG reveals. "John Connor is going to travel back in time and he's going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending SkyNet invasion."

"They've figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you're going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fucking awesome. I also think he's going to meet a scientist that's going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves."

I have no idea what it is over there on your side of the world but for us in the UK today is a bank holiday. And I'm lazy at the best of times. So here is a picture of Moon Bloodgood, from TERMINATOR SALVATION, and thus, relevant.

Extra Tidbit: Great move, whoever told McG that would be an awesome professional name.

I really don't get all this hate for the film. Every single trailer has looked great! I have no problem with the timeline here, just the fact that the 1st terminator came back already changed how the future would go down.

Come on people! There has not been one thing seen yet to warrant this kind of hate. With H2 there are obvious reasons for us to be upset, but really....what have you seen so far that makes this look like it's going to suck? Or are you guys just wanting to hate on McG that

I think it looks freakin sweet and will be there opening night. Do you really think Bale would have gotten involved if the film seemed like it would be that huge of a disaster?? He usually picks excellent films so give it a rest! Geez!!

What???

More Terminators coming back to the present? wtf? Hasn't Judgement day already happened in the movie continuity (2003's T3) More Terminators going back to the present that's the idea?!? I tought the new trilogy would end with Connor sending his dad back in time (as well as a couple of terminators)I have a feeling T4 is going to make no sense!

Did anyone else stop watching the movies after #2? I guess I don't get it. The first movie stood alone well, and they managed to force-fit #2 into the story line, but after that I found the whole thing a bit "done".

Meh on Terminator. Meh meh meh.

I don't see an issue with the time travel. The terminator franchise is going in the right direction with this and the TV series even though they are not directly related. Seeing the machines take over the world in a different way would seriously alter the future John had come to know. Honestly I'm fine with McG doing what he can. His terminator is as epic as T2 from what I see in the trailers and what I have read so far. T3 is the thing that almost ruined the entire franchise. The only

The only acceptible part about that movie was the ending... that was it. So the fact that McG is going the have the music from the originals, Linda Hamilton, and a little shot of Arnie and the creation of the T-800. I'm fine with all of it. It sounds like a major leap in the right direction. Haters beware to be rocked by the best movie of the summer. Mark my word, people will like this better than the Michael Bay thing coming out this summer and lets not talk about G.I. JOE Terrible.

WHY??

One of the main reasons I'm really looking forward to Salvation is because of the fact we've finally reached the war period. That's something I've been wanting to see for awhile. So now that we're there, why would they possibly go back in time again?! Been there, done that. We've had 3 movies like that already, so why can't the Salvation period be post judgement day? Terrible idea to go back in time again. I think they are afraid audiences will get detached from the piece unless it takes place

Everything studio made has to be take place "now".

It's not enough to run a franchise into the ground, is it McG? No, you have to humiliate it and then rape it.

The Terminator used to be a respectable franchise, this shit is AVP all over again.

Blah

Time travel risks getting really stale here -- too much, too often.

I though Bale signed on to a trilogy where he wasn't the focus of the three films? I could've sworn I read an article about him not having to carry 3 terminator movies but whatever McG is saying relies heavily on Bale being there the whole film.

For anyone that had any hope for T4, I think it was just flushed down the toilet.

Wow, every sentence that just came from McG's mouth sounded like pure shit on a stick.

Sounds like the Plot for Half-life 2

in some ways.

I think terminator should have stayed rated R, for every reason, because a TRUE filmaker doesn't censor his work, or appeal to an audience that consists of teens and little kids when the previous work was as adult as any movie I've seen.

Most terminator fans liked the movies so much because of it's smart, and realistic, yet no holds barred action. Also this amazingly grim future the movies painted. I doubt this will be honored with a pg-13 rating. This terminator will be

This terminator will be cool as hell to anyone under 15, and maybe some fanboys over 15 who just don't care about what could have been, or better yet, what should have ended with T2.

For everyone else, we are looking at the same mess that we got with AvP. It's all down to director choice. mcG will always be a sub-par filmaker, who chooses style over substance. He is trying to change that with this movie, but he couldn't even honor Cameron's balls-out franchise with an R rating? Fuck Him. Hard. With a terminator's fist.

I'm sure T:S will make alot of money.

Will it and its PG-13 glory actually be good though???

Can we make sure Terminator Salvation doesn't suck first before we start getting into a T5, which should bring back Edward Furlong, just because...?

Cool new direction for T5

I feel like the mythos here is actually getting stronger with McG at the helm.

I like the reverse mythological philosophy that T5 may offer going back to supe up the current military in that small window of time where humanity might have a chance to brace for the storm. Interesting idea.

I would lay odds that this whole arc of new Terminator films, and it's utter cool-ness, is the reason why Bale signed on. It's not ALL for the the money.

It really seems like it's becoming a whole new

It really seems like it's becoming a whole new "tech-noir" odyssey. I can see Bale wanting in on that.

I def think Bale would not sign on if the stories were going to be dull, and not take the franchise in a new direction.

Bale may curse out co-workers (really though, I work in production and we butt heads all the time- it happens) but he's too smart NOT to see that this is all a good idea for cool future films.

I'm betting these next, lets say 3, Terminator movies turn out as some of the best sci-fi flicks of all time.

But... Didn't judgment day end up happening in 2007? Andy doesn't Skynet risk it's own destruction by starting a war on humans before Skynet even becomes active. I mean, come one. Skynet can't go all "kill all humans" before the humans have created Skynet. Or, if both sides have figured out time travel to the point were they can send back whole armies, why wouldn't the humans just send an army back to the facility where Skynet was developed?

Aaargh! Why do people try to make stories

Aaargh! Why do people try to make stories involving time travel!? It's like they think plot holes are cool.

By now the "franchise" (I put it quotes, becuase I believe it ended at T2) breaches so many conventional rules of storytelling that its no longer comprehensible to any degree. Cant anything be left to imagination anymore ? What's next Shane 2: The Early Years with Zac Efron !

Okay, now that we're actually catching up with the point where time travel becomes a reality in the Terminator world, I'm becoming a little weary of the notion. Aside from Robert Patrick showing up as a scientist. But admittedly, the whole logic of the Terminator time-travel element has always been its greatest weakness.
