Forget what you've heard about BARBARELLA - Robert Rodriguez and girlfriend Rose McGowan are instead teaming up for a remake of RED SONJA. USA Today reports that Rodriguez will produce a remake of the 1985 film with McGowan in the starring role. Says McGowan of the casting, "When they first came to me with it, I thought it was funny...I do have a body made for sitting on a veranda with mint juleps and a parasol. I don't know why I always have to save the planet." Rodiguez doesn't quite agree and thinks she's a perfect fit for Sonja. "Rose is a pistol. She's whip-smart, has attitude to burn, is sexy, extremely strong, yet has a vulnerable side that would surprise her closest friends. That description also fits Red Sonja." McGowan will dye her hair red for the role and begin an rigorous training regimen to get ready for the October start date. While Rodriguez will only be producing the film, his longtime associate Douglas Aarniokoski (who served as First AD on SPY KIDS, THE FACULTY and FROM DUSK TILL DAWN) will direct. I also don't believe Robert hasn't seen Red Sonya, with all the crap him and Quentin say they watch.



I can't even picture Rose as the She-Devil with a Sword without it coming off as comical. At least Bridgette Nielson was a ball-busting bitch, so she could pull it off somewhat.

I used to idolize Robert... now, he's just a pandering whore, who can't make cheap, fun, original flicks anymore... or, so it seems with all the buzz lately. I can't wait til him and funny face break up, so he can do flicks without her.



Oh, and the original flick was horrible, and they're both full of shit when they say they haven't seen it.

This could be great? rose is hot and perfect for the part! excelent director, they did awesome work with planet terror which in my opinion was the best film of the year!! this could be an "R" rated barbaric treat with mcgowan getting bloody again in a tight cossie!!! DO IT NOW!!! WHAT YOU WAITING FOR!!!

Exactly. The first Red Sonja movie was a piece of shit and had nothing to do with the comics. That is why Rodriguez didn't even want to see it in the first place. And this one will be close to the comics. I'm a huge fan of Dynamite Red Sonja comics and I hope the movie will rock!!!

Sounds interesting, altough the actual-truly-original Red Sonja created by Robert E. Howard was not even close to be a "Barbarian babe". Let's say.... Do you remember Kate Beckinsale's character from Van Helsing? Well, that's it. However, I'd love to see a decent Red Sonja flick s the way we do already know, of course, the movie with Brigitte Nielsen, Governator and that brat from "Sidekicks"...

I own a great deal of Red Sonja comics and I enjoy them just as much as of all Conan's classic adventures. The story of the original Sonja film was pretty weak at best and I think it would be best for Rodriguez to take a close look at the wealth of Red Sonja comics that have...

I own a great deal of Red Sonja comics and I enjoy them just as much as of all Conan's classic adventures. The story of the original Sonja film was pretty weak at best and I think it would be best for Rodriguez to take a close look at the wealth of Red Sonja comics that have been around for over 30 years. Too bad there will be no Conan in this, but this project has great potential. Anyone who is familar with the current wave of Sonja comics published by Dynamite Entertainment should feel a little excited for this project, its possible that Dynamite might get involved with the film as well.

Rob Zombie is just as bad when it comes to his wife. "Oh look, a new Rob Zombie movie. Who's his wife playing in this one, I wonder?"

As it stands I never finished watching the original, but found it the sort of hokey fantasy that would never effectively be revisited.



At least Barbarella is famous for being the part Jane Fonda took over other, more acclaimed roles like Bonnie Parker.

That being said, i think Rodriguez may be a bit booty blinded, he's slowly turning into that guy that brings his girlfriend out with the guys and constantly says she's awesome and just like one of the guys, but everyone knows shes...
