Meet the couples from Roman Polanski's Carnage in this new still

Mar. 22, 2011by: Niki Stephens

Regardless of how you feel about Roman Polanski, the guy is still making films that attract great actors/actresses. CARNAGE is a great example of that.

Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz are the center of a story adapted from the stage. The four thespians, "play two couples who come together one evening to discuss the behaviour of their children, only for things to quickly become heated."

CARNAGE was once known by the original title, GOD OF CARNAGE but it was changed recently. Perhaps for religious reasons or as to not confuse comic fans into thinking it's a movie about the villain, Carnage.

Empire got some exclusive photos from the set. One is the header and the other two are below. It should be interesting to see the dynamic between the couples play out.

Here's a more detailed summary of the film:

"Set in present-day New York City, God of Carnage is the story of two married couples who meet for the first time shortly after their respective sons have a nasty schoolyard tangle. Michael and Veronica, whose sons teeth were knocked out with a stick, invite Alan and Annette, whose son did the knocking, to their home to settle matters such as who will pay for new teeth. But any attempt at having a civilized discussion about whose child is responsible for the fight, and how the parents may have influenced such destructive behavior, quickly devolves into finger-pointing, name-calling, stomping around and throwing things. And thats before they break out the rum!"

Extra Tidbit: I'm interested to see how Reilly and Waltz play off each other.

Roman Polanski is without a doubt my fav director. Pairing him with Winslet is gonna be gold.

The film certainly has a fantastic cast but it's pretty difficult for me to enjoy Polanski's new work as I can't help but think I'm supporting a pretty sick pervert by spending my money on it and watching it. I mean, the dude did not stop having sex with young teenage girls even after he fled to France. That shit just ruins it for me.

@TheWalrus

@TheWalrus
really?...would you do business with a rapist of children?...You don't think that who you choose to work with is a direct reflection on you?

Well, I certainly won't judge the four actors who chose to join this project. They're supporting the story and the craft. Working for Polanski does not equal advocacy for rape. That's just fucking bad logic.

do you even know what "logic" means?...He is a pedophile and rapist who fled the country to avoid prosecution...They (the actors) made a decision to work with him and support his career as if it is alright. Thus, they accept it. The logic is pretty sound. Question...Do you think it was ok for all ofthe entertainers who were commissioned to perform for Qadaffi's family?...Why do you think they all gave their money to charity?

Absolutely thrilling cast, and I'm especially thrilled about Waltz and how well he's doing since Basterds. So happy for him. As for Polanski, I can see why people chastize him, but it's a low blow when people chastize the actors that want to work with him. Get off your fucking soapbox.

Surely it just being called "Carnage" is more likely to confuse them... Anyway, great cast, decent director, I'll give it a look.

Is it a comedy? Or Drama?

Either take seems possible with that write-up. Anyone?

That is a hell of a pitch.
With a hell of a cast.
and a hell of a filmmaker.

That's an interesting (random) cast with an equally interesting plot.

I'd see that movie!

Set in present day new york. This hsould be interesting considering Roman Polanski is not allowed back in the United states. Film sounds great though really looking foward to this.

This might've just shot to the top of my must-see list. The cast is amazing, and yet one I'd never dream of, and Polanski still has the goods as a director. With a set-up as tense as that, I can only expect some noteworthy verbal sparring, and probably some tussling, judging from the title.

I like the premise of this. Reminds me of Little Children in a sense, but with a far more grim premise. I also get the feeling that there will be far more than name calling and things being thrown around. I'm thinking the worst, like Funny Games bad, but with less psychotics involved.

I imagine the play between Reilly and Waltz will be part of what makes this a good film. What makes me curious isn't so much Waltz and Reilly, but Foster and Reilly as a married couple. That's like some kind

Actually, the film/play is more of a dark, un-PC comedy.
It's not grim beyond social commentary and satire.

I have loved every Polanski movie I've seen and I hope this one turns out great! I just wish he was doing another Chinatown or Ghost Writer type movie.

EXTRA TIDBIT

totally! That will be damn interesting!

People who judge Polanski based on his personal life are the same idiots that judge Mel Gibson or Tom Cruise based on their personal issues. We watch their professional work and should judge them based on that -- unless you somehow know them... but you don't, do you?

Wrong. I still enjoy Gibson and Cruise.

Believing in Scientology and being very very excited about it is much different than raping a child...

No matter how we may feel about Polanski the human being, I think we can all agree that Polanski the director is quite brilliant.

Is this kind of like how Hannibal Lecter the human being was a serial killer, but Hannibal Lecter the psychologist was quite brilliant?

Sounds great and this has a great cast.

I really hope we see full blown angry, emotional peformances from everyone in the movie. A yelling match between Reilly and Waltz and Foster and Winslet would be amazing.

All of those actors are incredibly talented as is Polanski, but I have the same problem with Waltz that I have with Javier Bardeem, they were way too convincing as bad guys that I'm tense and over the edge of my seat when they play a normal character.

Mmm... maybe they could open a window and show the city because the whole play is inside the house and I don´t think the movie will be different.

Polanski loves to film in closed and claustrophobic spaces.
