Mel Gibson in talks to join Kiefer Sutherland and Tom Jane in heist comedy

I just had to Google THE BEAVER to see if it had been released yet, and I’ve been informed it’s coming out in two days. I haven’t seen anything close to an ad campaign for it, and it seems to have dropped off pretty significantly since there were rumors of Gibson winning an Oscar for his performance in the film.

But Gibson is looking ahead to new projects, rather than going back on hiatus. Hopefully he keeps out of the news long enough to do this film, which sounds rather cool.

He is in talks to join Kiefer Sutherland, Gerard Depardieu and Tom Jane in a heist comedy called SLEIGHT OF HAND. Variety reports that it’s about “a bunch of bungling burglars in Paris who inadvertently steal a rare gold coin belonging to a gangster.”

Thoughts immediately turn to Guy Ritchie, who has made many a classic film about stealing valuable things from gangsters, be they guns or diamonds or paintings. But no, he would not be helming this American effort, as those duties fall to Brad Mirman who doesn’t have a whole lot of directing credits to his name.

But Martin Riggs, Jack Bauer and The Punisher all teaming up for an action comedy? Count me the f*** in.
