Mel Gibson in talks to join Kiefer Sutherland and Tom Jane in heist comedy

05.18.2011

I just had to Google THE BEAVER to see if it had been released yet, and I've been informed it's coming out in two days. I haven't seen anything close to an ad campaign for it, and it seems to have dropped off pretty significantly since there were rumors of Gibson winning an Oscar for his performance in the film.

But Gibson is looking ahead to new projects, rather than going back on hiatus. Hopefully he keeps out of the news long enough to do this film, which sounds rather cool.

He is in talks to join Kiefer Sutherland, Gerard Depardieu and Tom Jane in a heist comedy called SLEIGHT OF HAND. Variety reports that it's about "a bunch of bungling burglars in Paris who inadvertently steal a rare gold coin belonging to a gangster."

Thoughts immediately turn to Guy Ritchie, who has made many a classic film about stealing valuable things from gangsters, be they guns or diamonds or paintings. But no, he would not be helming this American effort, as those duties fall to Brad Mirman who doesn't have a whole lot of directing credits to his name.

But Martin Riggs, Jack Bauer and The Punisher all teaming up for an action comedy? Count me the f*** in.

Extra Tidbit: PIRATES 4 comes out this weekend to, and I'm actually praying it doesn't make money so they cancel the two other films they already have planned.

Sounds like a good movie. As for The BEaver, it came out a while ago in LA, I saw it, it is pretty damn good, but i think it is safe to say Gibson will never get another Academy Award Nomination in his lifetime, even though he does deserve one for The beaver

Til Schweiger is in the movie too. Can they really risk having Mel in the same room as Hugo Stiglitz?

Plus, Tom Jane was once married to "oven dodger" Patricia Arquette.

wow this sounds cool. Tom Jane and Mel Gibson in a movie together! That picture of him with the beard makes him look younger. How old is it?

Gibson doing comedy?

How about a sequel to What Women Want called What Women Want Now. Mel plays himself wondering how to get back into people's good graces. He consults with some scientologists and he acquires the ability to read women's minds. Rated R for particularly bad language.

Now _that_ would be funny.
