Meryl Streep shows how Oscars are won in the Florence Foster Jenkins trailer

Set in 1940s New York, FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS tells the true story of the legendary New York heiress and socialite (Meryl Streep) who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The voice she heard in her head was beautiful, but to everyone else it was hilariously awful. Her "husband" and manager, St. Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant), an aristocratic English actor, was determined to protect his beloved Florence from the truth. But when Florence decided to give a public concert at Carnegie Hall, St. Clair knew he faced his greatest challenge.

Movies like this is where the term "Oscar bait" comes from. Meryl Streep is a phenomenal actor, no doubts there, and I'm guessing this film has enough comedy, quirk and tugging at the heart strings to appeal to folks looking for something else after the summer movie season. Should we just go ahead and announce or nomination now, or wait for the Academy to do it?

FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS will hit theaters on August 12th, 2016.

I'm actually rooting for Hugh Grant to get some award-attention.

I recently saw the French version of this same story, Marguerite. That was a transcendent moviegoing experience for me. Florence Foster Jenkins will be hard pressed to measure up, but if anyone can do it I'm sure Meryl Streep can. Do I sense a milestone 20th Oscar nom on the horizon?

It may also be the very embodiment of "Hollywood Biography" as the facts of her life including why her voice was bad would make it kind of a tough sell. Check out her page in Wikipedia.
