Metal Gear Solid movie not happening any time soon

Getting your hopes up for a METAL GEAR SOLID movie? Well prepare to have your dreams crushed. Producer Michael De Luca spoke to Collider.com over the weekend and said that the project is just about dead. "I don't think it's going to move forward," De Luca told them. Given the success rate of adapting a popular video game into a watchable movie, that's alright for me, but what exactly went wrong?

De Luca explains the issues surrounding the project thusly: "The video game companies are very protective of their property and there are certain things a studio requires freedom-wise to market and distribute a movie effectively in a global marketplace and...it was just kind of impossible to get the agendas to match up."

The project had been in the works (and I use the term "works" loosely) since 2006 but it seems there's no further movement. And honestly, isn't that a good thing? For now fans will just have to look forward to "Metal Gear Solid: Rising," which is scheduled for release sometime later this year.

Extra Tidbit: X-MEN writer David Hayter provided the voice for Snake in the game.
