New Line Cinema's continuation of the SHAFT franchise is truckin' along, and THR reports that Clifford "Method Man" Smith (KEANU) has been added to the cast.

The new SHAFT film will star Jessie T. Usher (INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE) as John Shaft. Jr, the son of Samuel L. Jackson's character from John Singleton's 2000 film. Working for the FBI and determined to be nothing like his estranged father, Shaft. Jr is forced to reluctantly enlist his father's help in order to find out who killed his best friend and bring down a drug-trafficking/money-laundering operation in New York City. Method Man will play an old friend of John Shaft’s (Jackson) from the neighborhood. Described as "old school meets new school," the upcoming film which is to be directed by Tim Story (RIDE ALONG) also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Richard Roundtree, Alexandra Shipp, and Regina Hall. SHAFT is set for a June 14, 2019 release.
