Mia Wasikowska could be replacing Emma Stone in del Toro’s Crimson Peak

STOKER star Mia Wasikowska could be climbing onboard Guillermo del Toro's gothic horror tale CRIMSON PEAK, taking over the role that Emma Stone had originally been attached to but was forced to depart last month due to a scheduling issue, according to The Wrap.

Wasikowska is being eyed to play a young author named Edith Cushing, who discovers that her charming new husband is not who he appears to be. Jessica Chastain also stars alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Charlie Hunnam. Plot details are unknown as del Toro and Lucinda Coxon work through a rewrite on a script del Toro and Matthew Robins originally penned.

del Toro recently spilled a few details about his ghost story, stating…

“It’s a very traditional Gothic romance and at the same time very modern in the sense that it has strong sex and violence. I’ve never done a movie that has anything remotely kinky, but this movie is a little kinky and the violence is very shocking. So you’re traversing through a tranquil Gothic romance, and all of a sudden this terrifying and sexual stuff comes in. It’s very much a haunted-house movie, but I don’t think there’s a ghost of a chance that we’ll get a PG-13 rating.”

Legendary will produce and be a participating financing partner on the movie, with Universal Pictures retaining an option to finance at a later date. Production is set to begin early next year.
