Mia Wasikowska meets a guy with a ghost friend in the trailer for Gus Van Sant's Restless

10.15.2010

The last film we got from Gus Van Sant was the biopic, MILK back in 2008. Now we have a trailer from his next effort, RESTLESS starring Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hopper.

Henry is the 20-year old son of the late Dennis Hopper. Another celeb kiddo is in this as well, Schuyler Fisk daughter of Sissy Spacek.

This is actually the first I'm hearing about it. I haven't really seen any news for this film. Guessing if there was any it flew under my radar. Besides MILK, the last Van Sant film I liked was LAST DAYS. Although it took me several watches to really like it. RESTLESS seems like a real downer though. Despite this, I would like to see it. It's also nice to see Fisk in something else, since the last movie I saw her in was ORANGE COUNTY.

Take a look at the synopsis and trailer below.

Synopsis: "The story of a terminally ill teenage girl who falls for a boy who likes to attend funerals and their encounters with the ghost of a Japanese kamikaze pilot from WWII."

Extra Tidbit: I had no idea that he directed the video for "Under the Bridge" by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

That looked really good, and delightful, I'd say.

Looks good but a little soft for Van Sant. Hope it's good though. I think Gerry and Last Days are his best films. Gerry is my personal favorite.

Looks good.

Crazy how Henry looks like his old man in some shots. Also. interesting that Bryce Dallas Howard is a producer on this.

I love the way Van Sant directors actors - it seems so pure. And that Wasikowska is really making a name for herself. It's nice to see exceptional up-and-coming talent, especially when they get to star in good movies.

I'm a patient

This trailer had me at the first half, and lost me the second half when it gave away the plot! Trailers really need to be held to stricter outlines.

Mia Wasikowska is one of my five favorite actresses. I thought she was the best part of Alice in Wonderland and she was phenomenal in In Treatment and The Kids Are All Right (which is my second favorite movie of the year).

Glad he's back.

If this is your type of movie, then yes, this looks like a suitable self discovery mellow-drama. If you know Gus, you know what kind of mindset you need to go in with.
