Michael B. Jordan to lead Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six film Without Remorse

As CREED and BLACK PANTHER superstar Michael B. Jordan's star continues to rise, it's been announced that Paramount Pictures has cast the FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS alum as the Tom Clancy character John Clark for a new series of films based on the ever-expanding RAINBOW SIX franchise. According to Variety, who exclusively broke the news earlier today, Paramount is developing two features based on the Clancy books “Rainbow Six” and “Without Remorse,” both novels in which Clark is the main man. In accordance with Paramount's plan, WITHOUT REMORSE will serve as the first release for the two-part deal, with the film acting as an origin story platform for Jordan's character.

Leading the charge for the RAINBOW SIX initiative will be Akiva Goldsman, who will oversee the endeavor as a producer alongside Jordan, Josh Appelbaum, and Andre Nemec. As of the moment, Paramount is vetting writers and directors to participate in the making of WITHOUT REMORSE.

Clark, a.k.a. John Terrence Kelly, is an ex-Navy Seal-turned-operations officer for the CIA and would go on to appear in 17 novels starting with 1988’s "The Cardinal of the Kremlin." Typically written as a secondary character, Clark has been known to assist CIA analyst Jack Ryan on some of his more physically demanding missions. That being said, Clark eventually came into his own with the release of Clancy's "Without Remorse," a 1993 G.P. Putnam's Sons-published novel which tells the origin story of the character. In the past, the character of John Clark has been played by Hollywood legend Willem Dafoe opposite Harrison Ford as Ryan in Paramount's CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. Clark then appeared on the big screen once again in 2002, courtesy of Liev Schreiber, in director Phil Alden Robinson's THE SUM OF ALL FEARS.

Landing Jordan for the role is assuredly a major get for Paramount, as the up-and-coming actor has been in high demand ever since he dazzled crowds and critics alike with his portrayal of the too-relatable villain Erik Killmonger. As of the moment, Jordan is set to reprise his role as Adonis Creed in Steven Caple Jr.'s CREED II, which is set for a November 21 bow in theaters. After that, you'll be able to catch Jordan's charasmatic stylings in JUST MERCY, a drama helmed by director Destin Daniel Cretton. In JUST MERCY, Jordan plays world-renowned civil rights defense attorney Bryan Stevenson,  as he recounts his experiences and details the case of a condemned death row prisoner whom he fought to free. Brie Larson, Jamie Foxx and Tim Blake Nelson are also set to co-star.
