Michael Bay's Ninja Turtles are now being compared to The Avengers by Kevin Eastman
I guess, THE AVENGERS is the new DARK KNIGHT.
When it comes to ensemble films with epic action, those close to the production of an upcoming film seem to want to compare it to the success and scale of THE AVENGERS. Which movie is getting this reference now? NINJA TURTLES.
One of the original creators of TMNT, Kevin Eastman is made this comparison while talking to NBC 5 Chicago:
"Jonathan Liebesman is going to make a great film. From what Ive seen of the script, its fantastic. Michael Bay has made some great and intense movies. Were talking about being inspired by movies like The Avengers for scope and roots origin and The Raid: Redemption for fight scenes and Rise for the Apes as far as computer-quality style."
Eastman also referenced THE AVENGERS once more in an interview with The Examiner:
"I like to answer this by basically telling the fans first and foremost not to worry, this will be a great TMNT film. Much like many thirty year old concepts, the TMNTs have been re-invented a number of times, some were stronger than others, but if you look at what Viacom/Nickelodeon has done/allowed to happen with the new TMNT animated TV series, and the new IDW comic series, each has a slightly new and refreshed take on the core concept, the new film with be the same, a film well placed in the TMNT lore the fans will enjoy. If we learned nothing else from one of my favorite comic book based films, The Avengers, that theres a lot to be said about never forgetting that core concept and core fan-base."
I have much respect for Eastman, but why does NINJA TURTLES have to be compared to anything? Shouldn't it stand on its own? May as well have said, "It's definitely not like the old turtles." I'm not going to bitch much on this since I have seen no final product, all I know from a good source is that the script is utter and complete shite. Something that we all already knew. Hence, why a rewrite was commissioned from Michael Bay & Co. Bay has also spent most of his time screaming at the internet and TMNT fans by basically telling them to cut him some f*cking slack and to just have faith that the end result is "awesome".
I'll just spend my time enjoying the new TMNT animated series on Nickelodeon until around 2014 or so.
