Michael Caine joins Interstellar, reteaming for the sixth time with Christopher Nolan

May. 3, 2013by: Alex Maidy

BATMAN BEGINS, THE PRESTIGE, THE DARK KNIGHT, INCEPTION, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, and now INTERSTELLAR. From tiny roles to big supporting characters, Michael Caine has built a strong relationship with director Christopher Nolan. I would anticipate that as long as Nolan directs and Caine is acting, the two will find a way to work together.

Michael Caine will join the already cast Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey, and Jessica Chastain in the science fiction film previously set up for Steven Spielberg to direct. Nolan slid into the project and has developed the story with his brother Jonah Nolan. Here's what we know so far.

"INTERSTELLAR involves time travel and alternate dimensions in a story that sees a group of explorers travel through a wormhole. The script is based on scientific theories developed by a Kip Thorne, a theoretical physicist, a gravitational physicist and astrophysicist at Caltech."

Caine is a phenomenal actor and I feel his portrayal of Alfred will forever be the benchmark for that character. He brought a humanity and depth to the role that had not been shown on screen before. I would like to see him carry a bigger part in INTERSTELLAR, but even if he just pops up in a scene I will be content.

INTERSTELLAR will open on November 7, 2014.

You know, I love The Beard...

He's one of my most favorite directors of All-time, but I have to admit, changing the director from Speilberg to Nolan turned this from a "potentially great film to look forward to" to a "opening night must-watch/pirated downloading whatever" film to me. Even more so when you throw in supercool keywords like "sci-fi", "time-travel", "alternate dimension", "wormhole" etc. And getting actors like Caine is just the icing of the cake.

Although I DO want Speilberg to direct a straight up

Although I DO want Speilberg to direct a straight up Science-Fiction soon, be it hard conceptual or fun blockbuster (I'm looking at you, Robopocalypse).

Great

I have so much respect for Nolan, his humility and ingltegrity alone is astounding in his current position, I mean the guy is the king of Hollywood right now. You can name Cameron, Whedon, Spielberg, Abrams, etc.. but Nolan's consistency and track record, both in quality and box office performance is remarkable.

The fact that these A list actors line up and follow this guy anywhere he goes is also testament to how awesome he is, and how great is that speech by sir Michael Caine? Short and

I'm just thankful Michael Caine is still finding people and projects that inspire him to stay in the business because aside from maybe Christopher Plummer and Robert Duvall, there aren't that many actors around that age who are still working at a regular clip in mostly decent to brilliant movies.

It's a testament to Nolan's talent that he can pull in someone like Caine for six movies. Caine is such a great actor and it's always enjoyable to see him in one of Nolan's movies. The only thing I hate about hearing about a new Nolan film is the wait to find out more about it. I do like how Nolan guards his films before truly revealing them, but the anticipation kills me.

You know what Nolan should do...make Michael Caine the lead in one his films. Now that would be awesome to see.

But yeah, his Alfred was one of the very best parts of the Dark Knight trilogy.
