Michael Keaton in early talks to join Spider-Man: Homecoming as a villain

04.13.2016

I'm going to have to start believing in Harvey Dent again. Aaron Eckhart's version in THE DARK KNIGHT had it right. You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Don't believe me? Ask Michael Keaton how true it is with word making the rounds that the former Batman is in early talks to come aboard SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING as a villain.

From Batman to bad guy? Bet you didn't see that one coming.

Neither Sony nor Marvel have commented on these developments, which should come as no surprise... However, it makes you wonder if some lips became loose with earlier reports that the character of Vulture would somehow be involved in the solo Spidey movie. Is Vulture the role that Keaton is in discussions to play? It would make sense, and this may be one of those cases where the smoke actually lit the fire of information getting out, which isn't exactly how fire works, but go with me on this wild analogy anyway.

Keaton has always done fantastic work, but with BIRDMAN and SPOTLIGHT bringing the actor back into the spotlight the last few years, it's awesome to think of Michael Keaton squaring off against your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man right smack in the middle of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ooohh, boy... That gave me chills just typing it.

Spider-Man can be seen joining the MCU in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR on May 6, but you'll have to wait until July 7, 2017 for SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING to land your way.

Kraven

Honestly, dye his hair a little darker and cast him as Kraven. An aged, master hunter out to kill Spider-Man. Adapt the "Kraven's Last Hunt" storyline.

I just hope this time he's not another 'nice guy/scientist turn bad' character like in EVERY GODDAMN SPIDER-MAN MOVIE to date.
I mean literally, all Spider-Man villains always follow this formula:
Nice guy/scientist > dumb decision > crazy psychopath
Well, at least Sandman still turned out pretty sane.

While I love seeing Michael Keaton in anything, and wouldn't mind seeing him as a villain, I just wish they'd use a different character than The Vulture.

There are actually several villains I could see Keaton playing...and playing them well. I hope this is true. Sounds like a Marvel casting type of choice than a Sony one and that feels me with a little confidence about whose really pulling the strings.

All wrong

It's the Terrible Tinkerer. In a tie in to the MCU, gotten hold of tech from the Chitauri or Ultron, and it's up to Spidey to save the day.
It won't be Vulture, nor Norman Osborne.
That is my guess.
My next guess would be Professor Spencer Smythe

The idea of him playing The Vulture after Birdman is freakin hilarious, but I hope he's someone bigger like Osborne. Holy shit, could you imagine his Osborne vs D'Onofrio's Fisk??? That would be nuts!

cool to hear! It would be funny if he ended up as a villain in the new Batman movie, or Gotham!

I would have pegged him being a villain for DC way before him being a villain for Marvel.

not just Vulture or Goblin

Doc Ock?
Scorpion?
Lizard?

actually, now that i think about it, Spidey's villains are always old guys. Keaton could be any of them. just don't make him Spidey's enemy while also being Peter's mentor again (well unless it's Dr. Connors).

and scratch that, Bryan Cranston for Doc. Ock (eventually).

I am truly surprised anyone is willing to pay more money to see a third version of Spiderman, regardless of the cast.

Spiderman vs Beetlejuice

One way to finally get more Beetlejuice, Damn you Tim Burton! Seriously age wise, Green Goblin and Vulture is what first comes to mind. I pray its not Green Goblin. Enough already!!! Lets be original guys. Same with if theres another FF reboot. No more Doctor Doom!

If he were to sign on and join the MCU as Vulture, or Norman Osborne/Green Goblin, it would be flat out amazing. He definitely has the intensity for either roles and it would be cool as hell to see him go from being Batman long ago to said villain now in the MCU. Hope this turns out to be true since this would wholeheartedly make my interest and excitement for the solo film that much greater than it has been.

But how do we know that he isn't possibly playing J Jonah Jameson???

Keaton can play old and crazy very well!

He would be a perfect Vulture, I wonder who will play his younger self if they really are doing the ant/reversei-aging plotline (vultures BEST plotline ever)

Dammit, posted before I was done. Super happy to see Keaton take a crack at it if the Vulture is in fact who he's playing.

Second only to Willem Dafoe, he's the only other actor I could see being a spot-on scary/crazy Norman Osborn. Regardless, he'll bring that same volcanic intensity to any villain he might play.

Keaton could make an ad for life insurance and it'd still be awesome. Anything that he is in works for me. I just hope they don't waste the talent on another throwaway Marvel villain.
