Well, it looks as though this Friday belongs to the our friendly, neighborhood webhead! Earlier this morning we reported an exclusive scoop regarding the villains and suit upgrades we should expect to see in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. In it, we mentioned the fact that Michael Keaton was in consideration for a role in the film. Word on the street is that an agreeable contract couldn't be negotiated due to Robert Downey Jr. taking part. Regardless, it looks like something is being worked out as Variety reports that Michael Keaton is back in the mix to play a leading role.

Given that The Vulture will be playing the main baddie in Homecoming, everyone's assuming that Birdman himself would be playing the role. MINOR SPOILERS ahead, but we also know that The Tinkerer will also be playing a part in the film, helping Vulture to become the bird he's meant to be (check out our exclusive scoop video below). Is it possible Keaton could be playing anyone else but the leading villain? I doubt it, but what I do know is that the movie will be better off with his addition, wherever he might fit in.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.

He could be Uncle Ben... That would be a nice 180 on his Batman (The man inspired by his parents' death, becomes the inspiration by his own)...

if not as a villain, I think he'd be a great JJ Jameson. Maybe a less comical one, though.

So I missed it the first time I guess

But why did Keaton drop out because of Downey?

He didn't drop out, they just didn't have the budget for him. Except apparently they do!

Sounds like he is only on as Tinkerer, not Vulture

They wanted him for Vulture originally, he said no. I don't think he is up to putting on all that heavy equipment for the costume. Then they offered him Tinkerer and he agreed. I don't think we will see any form of Norman Osborne in this movie. It is basically Adventures in Babysitting but with superheroes. Spidey/Peter has to travel across NYC, stopping villains along the way trying to get to his homecoming dance at school. It might have some moments obviously the day or two before to set

Please make this so

Would be so great to have Keaton as a villian in a superhero flick.

This is great news. I was severely disappointed that he dropped out the first time considering how great of an actor he is (also one of my personal favorites) and how huge this would be for the MCU to have Keaton involved in any capacity; especially as an unhinged villain. And if he isn't playing Vulture, then I would love to see him play a slow burning Norman Osborne with hints of Green Goblin for future sequels.

Really, really hope he signs on. It would make my anticipation for this film
