Michael Shannon says Man of Steel will "Blow everybody's socks off"

Michael Shannon

Some actors are loved because of how much work and time they spend perfecting their performances. Others you love simply because of their personality. I enjoy Michael Shannon for both those reason. He is one of the most intense on-screen performers but is also an incredibly laid back and fun guy. The man simply tells it like it is (not in a bad way of course) and I greatly appreciate the fact that he doesn't seem to bullshit in any of his interviews. You ask him a straightforward question, you're going to get an honest response.

The actor recently spoke to the Huffington Press and they talked about the new found fame he's received from reading that crazy sorority letter as well as some of his upcoming films like MUD, THE ICEMAN, and of course, MAN OF STEEL.

The interviewer mentioned how fantastic the last trailer for MAN OF STEEL was and Shannon responded:

It was. It's going to blow everybody's socks off. And I know they're probably pissed off, like I'm jinxing it or something and I shouldn't say that. I'll knock on wood just out of deference to the gods, but the movie is solid. It's gonna get the job done.

Michael Shannon was asked that since this was his first "big superhero movie" if it was strange going from being in a CGI suit to seeing how it looked onscreen:

It's exhilarating. It's what Zack [Snyder] promised would happen, you know? Because I remember the first couple of days I was on set, I thought This is ridiculous. I look like an idiot. I don't look anything like General Zod. I'm a total failure. I went over to the screen for playback and it was ridiculous. All of us were wearing pajamas, basically. And there was this neon green set of stairs that was supposed to be our spaceship. So you see us all marching down these neon green stairs in our pajamas and I'm like, "This looks like a Monty Python skit." And he's like, "I know right now it looks pretty silly, but, two years from now, it's going to look like the most badass thing you've ever seen in your life." And he's right.

Shannon was also asked if he was concerned about how hardcore comic book fans might react to the film:

No. I mean, it is their thing. It's not my thing. I'm not in that club. So, I have a respect for it. To people, it's like a religious experience and I don't discount that. I understand it. We're very sheltered from all that on set. I mean, yeah, if people want to know if it was a high pressure job -- it was very high pressure. And everybody felt a lot of anxiety about getting it right. But, Zack's strategy -- which is very intelligent -- is to keep everything very calm and fun and playful and not get tied up about it. Because if you get overly anxious about pleasing people, you can't make anything. You have to be relaxed and have a good time.

And in news completely unrelated to MAN OF STEEL here's what Michael Shannon had to say about Tony Danza:

I was on a morning talk show with Danza. The VH-1 Big Morning Buzz, I think. I was very starstruck when I saw him.

Michael Shannon starstruck by Tony Danza....well I never.

Most actors won't trash a film they're in until AFTER it has been released, however I feel like if Michael Shannon really thought that MAN OF STEEL was pure shit he'd say something. The saying might be "In Nolan we trust" but I have a lot of faith in Shannon as well.

Starring Henry Cavill, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, and Kevin Costner, MAN OF STEEL will attempt to blow your socks off on June 14th, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: One of Michael Shannon earliest film roles was in perhaps the worst Keanu Reeves movie of all time: CHAIN REACTION. Believe me, it's bad.
