Michelle Williams takes on an icon in the My Week with Marilyn trailer

Oct. 6, 2011by: Paul Tassi

I was a little skeptical when I heard Michelle Williams was cast as Marilyn Monroe in MY WEEK WITH MARILYN. Sure she was blonde and a good actress, but could she really pull of portraying the biggest bombshell in Hollywood history?

After watching this new trailer, I think that the answer might just be yes. Williams 100% looks the part, and brings a life to the actress that shines through even in a short trailer such as this. And with a supporting cast that includes Dominic Cooper, Judi Dench, Emma Watson and Kenneth Branagh, this is definitely one to watch. Check out the official synopsis below, and the trailer after that.

Colin Clark met Marilyn Monroe while working as a young assistant on Laurence Olivier’s “The Prince and the Showgirl.” When Marilyn experienced emotional difficulties during shooting, the 23-year-old third assistant director came to her aid and romance developed. But one week of honesty and fun was not enough to save the doomed star from self-destruction.

Extra Tidbit: Yes, I have a Marilyn Monroe poster in my apartment. I am super classy like that.

I was expecting something great, as Michelle Williams is the best in the business right now, but I didn't expect it to look that good. Cannot wait for this.

The only time I doubted this was when they released the Vanity Fair pics without the signature Marilyn smile. I'm easily in the Michelle Williams camp for who I think will make the best Marilyn Monroe. And yes, that little gold man is hers for the taking.

Michelle Williams rocked it!

I also wasn't a fan of those Vaniity Fair pics, but she killed it in the trailer. She should see at least a well-deserved Oscar nomination for this.

I said it before, I'll say it again: Looks and sounds nothing like Monroe. Michelle Williams is a great actress, but she can't pull off Monroe. If they had fictionalized Monroe and put some distance between this and reality, then I could buy in, but if Williams is supposed to be THE Norma-Jeane Baker, I can't condone this performance.

There was a couple moments during the trailer that i didn't buy her as Marilyn, but overall Michelle Williams is solid from what i see and i have to agree with others that an oscar nomination is almost guaranteed and a win could be very likely.
