Midgets, eye patches, corsets, John Cusack, and Robert De Niro round out the crazy in trailer for The Bag Man

Man, I don't know what the hell is going on in this trailer, but it's a train wreck I can't turn away from. First off, you've got two big-name stars who have put out some really great work in their careers making a film that feels like something you'd find on late night cable. Then, you have an assortment of oddities, including weird hairstyles, an eye patch, a midget, a stripper dressed as "Wonder Woman" and a seedy motel all presented as a legit crime thriller. It's just…weird, man. You have to see for yourself.

Don't open the bag:

Here's the synopsis:

THE BAG MAN follows the story of JACK (John Cusack), a tough guy with chronic bad luck but human touches. Hired by DRAGNA (Robert De Niro), a legendary crime boss to complete a simple but unusual task, the plot centers around the anticipated arrival of Dragna who has summoned JACK and a host of shady characters to a remote location for unknown reasons. Over the course of a long and violently eventful night awaiting Dragna’s arrival, Jack’s path crosses that of RIVKA (Rebecca Da Costa), a stunningly beautiful woman whose life becomes physically and emotionally entangled with Jack’s. When Dragna finally arrives on the scene there are sudden and extreme consequences for all.

I mean, the first question is: What happened to these guys? But, it's not like this is new. Cusack and De Niro have been dabbling in the low rent area for a while now with De Niro at least making some flicks that capitalize on his considerable talents (SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK of late), but Cusack seems stuck in a rut. Why he doesn't find a way to make a GROSSE POINT BLANK sequel is beyond me, because if he's going to be a quirky guy with a gun then that's what we want to see. All that said, this is perfect Netflix viewing. Maybe a double feature with KILLER ELITE? Oh, boy…

THE BAG MAN "hits" limited theaters on February 28, 2014.
