Midnight Run 2 adds new screenwriters and Brett Ratner

It’s been nearly two years since we reported anything on MIDNIGHT RUN 2. Last we heard, Charles Grodin, who played Jonathan Mardukas in the original was out since Martin Brest would not come out of his cave to direct. Brest hasn’t gone anything since GIGLI. I don’t blame him for not taking a chance on this one. Robert De Niro is still attached to reprise his role.

Originally, Timothy Dowling (ROLE MODELS) was set to script, but now new writers have been brought in. David Elliot & Paul Lovett (FOUR BROTHERS) have now signed on to write their own version of what happens to bounty hunter Jack Walsh twenty-four years after the first installment. The plot is rumored to center on Walsh going after Mardukas’ son.

Guess who else is signing on? None other than, Brett Ratner. Now, Ratner has done buddy comedy before with RUSH HOUR, which isn’t a bad movie. But MIDNIGHT RUN doesn’t need a sequel. I guess not everyone feels the same way.
