Mike Flanagan confirms who we won’t be seeing in Haunting of Hill House 2

SPOILERS for The Haunting of Hill House. A modern reimagining of the Shirley Jackson novel of the same name, The Haunting of Hill House explores a group of siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now adults, and forced back together in the face of tragedy, the family must finally confront the ghosts of their past — some of which still lurk in their minds while others may actually be stalking the shadows of Hill House. The first season of the Netflix series garnered some considerable praise, but it also raised questions of where a possible second season could take us.

The story of the Crain family was brought to a relatively happy conclusion by the close of the final episode, and director Mike Flanagan confirmed to TVLine that that's the last we'll be seeing of Olivia (Carla Gugino), Hugh (Henry Thomas & Timothy Hutton), Steven (Michiel Huisman), Shirley (Elizabeth Reaser), Theo (Kate Siegel), Luke (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), and Nell (Victoria Pedretti).

I don’t think so. I think we tied up all of those threads exactly how they should be. I don’t really see a need to revisit those characters, even in cameos. I want to remember them the way we left them, and leave them to their lives.

It's important to note that as of this moment, Netflix has not ordered a second season of The Haunting of Hill House, and Mike Flanagan said that any conversations about a follow-up will likely wait until after he's completed work on the upcoming SHINING sequel film, DOCTOR SLEEP. If the potential second season of The Haunting of Hill House doesn't follow the Crain family, what will it be about? Flanagan has previously said that there are many different directions they could go, either focusing on the house or something completely different, but gravitated towards the idea of an anthology series. "I think more than anything, the show is about haunted places and haunted people, as Steve says, and there’s no shortage of either," Flanagan said. "So, there’s any number of things we could do, in or out of Hill House."
