Mike White is in the lead for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

11.03.2010

The race to find a director for PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES is becoming an interesting one.

With David O'Russell off the project, Lionsgate and Richard Kelley's company Darko Entertainment have had a hard time choosing who would be the best fit to direct.

The Los Angeles Times got some inside information on the top contender for the job. The shortlist of directors consists of: Mike Newell, Neil Marshall, David Slade, Phil Lord & Chris Miller, Jonathan Demme, Mike White, and Matt Reeves. So who is the guy that they think might be the best to helm? Mike White.

White isn't an experience director, but the choice has reason. They say that as a writer (ORANGE COUNTY and SCHOOL OF ROCK) and director (YEAR OF THE DOG) known for black comedy, White is seen as one of the few candidates that will be able to handle the many tones of the film.

You know who probably won't be helming? LET ME IN's Matt Reeves. There was no reason given as to why.

Personally, I'd like to see Phil Lord & Chris Miller get it.

Extra Tidbit: The LA Times also pointed out that zombies are going to be the "next best thing in Hollywood". What do you think?

I can't understand the idea that zombies are the new vampires. Or even that there's a "vampire trend" for that matter. How many big vampire movies have their been besides the Twilight Saga? And do we even really want to give that series enough credit to call them actual vampire flicks? Aside from Twilight, both genres have been seeing releases for, I dunno, the last twenty years?

Mike White FTW.

Definetely give it to Phil Lord and Chris Miller. They created Clone High! And wrote and produced How I Met Your Mother (When it was good!) And we all loved CWACOM! These guys know humor. Let them do it.

If JONAH HEX taught us one thing, it's that directors of computer animated films have to prove themselves before being given the reins on more adult-orientated, gory, live-action films. There's an exception to every rule, but I'm not sure how CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS qualifies you to direct a film about zombies, funny as it may be.

I'd be down for Mike White directing this even though Marshall was my first choice. Based off his credentials, I'd think he would a great job.

And yes, the extra tidbit is going to be true. With "The Walking Dead" premiering last Sunday, I can see Zombies becoming the new Vampire trend.

Danger^Cart

That shit about Matt Reeves sounds so malicious, it made me LAWL.

And yeah, you'd turn down Jonathan Demme if he wanted to direct your little faux period comedy. Get the fuck out of here.
