After lots of back and forths, maybes, and what ifs with the impending adaptation of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES, a directorial signature has finally been marked on the dotted line and the name reads: Mike White.

According to Variety, the filmmaker known for writing on such projects as NACHO LIBRE, THE SCHOOL OF ROCK, and "Freaks and Geeks" will officially take the reins adapting the offbeat Seth Grahame-Smith novel, beating out contenders such as Mike Newell, Neil Marshall, and David Slade to name a few.

For those of you who've been living in a sealed bunker for the past year, the book is basically the Jane Austen 1813 classic Pride and Prejudice with droves of the undead thrown in for somewhat humorous effect. Grahame-Smith's book looks at "an alternate version of 19th-century England that features deadly ancestors roaming the countryside amid the outbreak of a virus as Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters search for romance."

Okay, now who's gonna play our Elizabeth Bennet?
Extra Tidbit: Mike White's previous (and only) directorial effort was the 2007 film YEAR OF THE DOG, starring Molly Shannon.

Please not Portman. I like her but she's not right for Elizabeth and she gets casts or rumored to be cast in everything.

I could def see Mary Elizabeth Winstead in this role.

Twisted Zombie Rom Com

White's involvement actually makes me interested in this. Looking forward to a nice twisted take on what sounds like a pretty dark and twisted story.

Good news. Glad to see him moving up in the buisness world that is Hollywood.

I thought Bradley Cooper and Scarlett Johansson were in talks to star? Cause if so, that'd be awesome.

I love this guy. In front, behind, just the writer. And he's got zombie cred already (sort of).

Really glad, and kind of surprised, that they went with a director with such little experience. He's a great "comedy with heart" writer, and he doesnt have any Hollywood baggage. As cool of an idea as it is, the project was beginning to become weighed down by all the attention and overblown rumors. Here's hoping White grounds the project.

This is great news. White may not be as experienced with directing as the others in the running, but he's definitely the choice with the most comedic chops, and this this seems like the perfect project for somebody without too much directorial baggage to tackle. I mean, it'd honestly just be kind of weird to see Jonathan Demme take this thing on. I'm sure it'd still be awesome, but I'm really excited to see what the wild card does with it.
