Update: Miles Teller teases casting news is coming soon for Josh Trank's The Fantastic Four. Screen testing begins this month

Jan. 21, 2014by: Alex Maidy

UPDATE: Screen testing to begin soon. New potential stars listed at the end of the article.

With THE FANTASTIC FOUR slated to hit theaters next Summer, filming needs to begin soon to allow for sufficient post-production on the film. We have been hearing the names Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan bandied about since last year with no confirmations yet. Teller was recently linked to the John Belushi biopic in which he would portray Dan Aykroyd. He also has four films slated to hit theaters in 2014 (DIVERGENT, THAT AWKWARD MOMENT, TWO NIGHT STAND, and WHIPLASH) meaning his schedule could fill up very quickly.

It would also be ridiculous to assume that 20th Century Fox wouldn't have been cementing their franchise reboot since these rumors first started popping up. So, the question then becomes: when are we finding out who is starring in THE FANTASTIC FOUR? When asked that very question by Punch Drunk Critics, Miles Teller said this:

Yeah, that should be coming up in the next few weeks

THE FANTASTIC FOUR is starting production on March 31st in Baton Rouge. It seems pretty late in the game for a major superhero movie to not have announced who is starring but with January coming to a close, that still leaves about eight weeks for announcements to be made. So far, all we know Seth Grahame-Smith and Michael Green wrote the script, Josh Trank is directing, Matthew Vaughn is producing, and Allison Williams is also rumored to star alongside Teller and Michael B. Jordan.

Variety is reporting that screen testing will begin before the end of the month to see if the rumored cast work well together. Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan will test alongside potential Sue Storm actresses Saoirse Ronan and Kate Mara. Other potential Reed Richards candidates include GAME OF THRONES stars Kit Harrington and Richard Madden. No word on any potential Ben Grimm or Doctor Doom actors.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2015.

an AWESOME Fantastic 4 Movie was already made before its Called....

Lost In Space......... This was a few years before any of the recent Fantastic 4 Films was made...in my Opinion, this is the look and Feel Fantastic 4 should have......eerily enough Gary Oldman seemed like a Dr Doom type, especially when he turned into that weird Monster. I don't know why they never made a sequel to that Movie..it was one of the greatest reboots or perhaps updated movie of an old old series.
What they are doing with this New Fantastic 4 is idiotic....go create your own

Marvel must have been stupid and desperate for cash to allow this......a Black Johnny Storm? NO! Christ Evans was perfect for the role....every one else sucked bigtime. but now I say Cast that blonde guy who Played Green Arrow in Smallville as Johnny Storm....hmmm maybe not, he doesnt have the personality.

fading fading fading

i had little interest in this and now its dwindle to "who gives a shit" status. I mean, Trank MAY have some skills, but he's largely untested. i wanted to see where he mght take this. but then Grahame-Smith and Green jumped on and i gave an "uh oh". now this sounds less like a serious effort to compete with WB and Disney and more like a casting call for a CW vampire college series

Bunch of wet blankets below me. I'm not stoked on Allison Williams possible involvement, but she can't be any worse than Alba was.

I had high hopes for this movie because of the director. Now that I hear who might be in it,I lost hope. Why change the damn race of Johnny Storm. The actors are too young. They should give the rights back to Marvel/Disney.This is just disappointing.

Bottom of the bucket choices.

Anyone of us could cast this better. Please test a few different actors for Johnny. OR CONTINUE STALLING... YES please do that.

Can FOX and Sony stop fucking up the Marvel Universe. They to me have little desire to be truthful to the comics.

Listen, this movie has the potential to be pretty damn good. Trank directed the hell out of Chronical and having Vaughn on as a producer is a very good thing. Every person listed is a good actor (especially Jordan) and yes, they are too young to play the original versions of the FF - but they're obviously going the Ultimate route where the characters are in their early 20s. When I first read Ultimate FF I thought "This would make a hell of a better movie than the one we got" so I'm all for them

But right now I'm looking forward to this one.

Young actors and an adopted black Johnny Storm? Do you know what this reminds me of? The cast of 90210.

Also, Miles Teller as Dan Akyroyd? Uh... Okay.

Just when you think...

Just when you think they hit rock bottom with a FF movie staring Jessica Alba and directed by Tim Story they say "No we can do MUCH worse". I usually give movies and casting a chance but this is beyond that and will be a throwback to when comic book movies were awful...funny that with this, the Tim Story FF and the Roger Corman version Hollywood has made FF seems to be the most unfilmable comic property (when it may be the easiest)

Lame

I keep wishing Fox will pull the plug on this, and just give the property back to Disney/ Marvel

Also, I don't think it really matters if Johnny is black. He can be adopted. It isn't necessary for him to be biologically related to Sue.

IMO, the biggest challenge will be Thing. Hopefully they can use a combination of practical effects + mocap and CGI.

Thing needs to have an expressive face. Pivitol to the character.

it does matter. The character is white, it's as simple as that. People would lose their minds if they made a movie with a white Blade.

Having read all of Ultimate Fantastic 4 this past fall, a younger team is the way to go.

Ultimate FF4 is leagues better than anything FF related in the 616 universe. (Where Mr. Fantastic has the grey in his hair)

The explanation of how they get their powers makes 1000x more sense, as well as the motivation for each character

Ultimate FF is great - I hope Trank and Vaughn follow those early arcs closely.

I was really excited for this new reboot before the casting announcements. Teller, Jordan, and Williams are all very talented and are all great actors, but they just seem too young for this film. I know they want to cast younger people so that they can make multiple films, but I just wish they could cast more established, older actors. And also cast a Caucasian actor to actually play a Caucasian character who's already been established as that ethnicity in the comics for years.

I guess I just don't get why his being white would really change the character. It's just changing one trait. If race truly doesn't matter, then isn't this the same as if Spider-Man grew up in the present generation instead of the 1960's, or Wolverine's origins being retold?
