When you hear the name Helen Mirren, you probably think more of royalty or authority figures than someone who can snap bones with Bourne-style efficiency.

But the Oscar-winning actress is getting her knuckles dirty right alongside Bruce Willis in the action flick RED, playing "an old associate with a lethal set of skills."

The story revolves around a former CIA operative (Willis) enjoying his retirement, until the new company director (Morgan Freeman) discovers his secrets and decides to make it permanent by dispatching a younger high-tech black-ops crew.

The Summit movie is based on a Warren Ellis comic series, and is being directed by Robert Schwenke (FLIGHTPLAN, THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE).

Extra Tidbit: Mirren was invested as Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2003 -- the same year she dropped her dress in CALENDAR GIRLS.

I can't agree with track100 about SHADOWBOXER being any good. But Mirren is always watchable even if the movie isn't. Plus, CALENDAR GIRLS was definitely not the first time Mirren has bared all on screen (God bless her). May I recommend CALIGULA, SAVAGE MESSIAH, or THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE, & HER LOVER (among many others)?

Helen Mirren just played an assassin in Shadow Boxer and she was excellent. It's one of the finest and most audacious B-movies ever made. It stars Cuba Gooding, Jr. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Mo'nique, and Stephen Dorf's semi-hard condom-covered penis.
