Given the success of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION, both critically and commercially, Tom Cruise and Paramount Pictures seemed quick to keep the momentum going by announcing that MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 was already in the works. Then we caught wind that ROGUE NATION writer/director Christopher McQuarrie was back on-board, as well as Cruise's ROGUE NATION co-star, Rebecca Ferguson. Well, it looks like this is the real deal as Tom Cruise himself announced yesterday at CinemaCon (check out our coverage of that HERE) that production on M:I 6 will begin this fall.

There haven't been any plot details given, but considering that MI6 agent Ilsa Faust is expected to return (coincidence?), I can only imagine that she'll be teaming up with Ethan Hunt once more for the greater good. Ferguson proved to Cruise's greatest match in the MI films thus far, so her return is a welcome one. While each film to date has boasted a different director and style, McQuarrie's return might mark the first for the franchise in that M:I 6 may be a continuation of ROGUE NATION. Considering that NATION was one of the best in the series, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone complaining!

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2017.
