Mission: Impossible – Fallout tracking for series’ best opening weekend

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Looks like FALLOUT could be the biggest MISSION yet for Tom Cruise, as the movie is tracking to have the best opening weekend of the whole series. Current industry estimates (via Variety) indicate the movie could open anywhere between $48-60 million over the July 27-29 weekend, with the most generous estimates saying it could climb as high as $65 million. What we’re getting at here is that Cruise leaping out of a plane will be very good for business.

Should the movie come out on the high end of those expectations it would have the best opening weekend of the six-film series, with the latest, ROGUE NATION, making $55 million, and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II having the best opening at $57 million. So far all the trailers have dazzled viewers, and people came out of CinemaCon with nothing but praise after seeing the footage of Cruise’s death-defying airplane stunt.

There’s nothing out yet in the way of reviews, but the movie did recently show to a few journalists, some of whom took to social media to share their enthusiasm over the “insane,” “nail-biting” summer blockbuster.

The very first trailer for the movie blew my socks off, and each piece of footage since then hasn't disappointed. Christopher McQuarrie looks to have done it again after delivering the best MISSION so far in ROGUE NATION, upping the ante on the action and thrills. I can’t wait to see the movie when it comes out in two weeks, and will happily contribute to that $60 million by watching Cruise leap from 25,000 feet in IMAX…possibly several times.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT arrives July 27.
