Monster director Patty Jenkins could be the helmer for Thor 2

Sep. 22, 2011by: Niki Stephens

This is definitely an interesting choice if it comes to fruition.

It looks like MONSTER director Patty Jenkins could be the one to direct the sequel to THOR. What's cool is that she would be the first lady director to take on a Marvel comics film. No negotiations going on as of yet, she is only being eyed right now.

There was rumor that Brian Kirk, who has directed several episodes of GAMES OF THRONES was in early negotiations to helm the sequel. Turns out it never got that far, he never got past the meeting stage. Although, that would have been a pretty cool choice.

Kenneth Branagh decided a few months ago that he would not carry the helming torch but instead would be involved as a producer.

Jenkins has not directed any features since MONSTER. She's actually been doing more tv stuff by directing episodes for shows like ENTOURAGE, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, and THE SARAH SILVERMAN PROGRAM.

interesting choice. I know a couple people that were in Monster, and worked behind the scenes.

my only question about all of these marvel sequels is, for instance, Thor, will he figure out a way back to Jane, or Earth in The Avengers, or in Thor 2? like what will the chronological order be?

I really liked Monster but, really don't know what to think in terms of her directing an action/ fantasy like Thor 2. Could be a brilliant choice, could be an epic fail. This is a definite wait and see.

In terms of female director, I'd rather see what Kathryn Bigelow can do to a Marvel movie.

Eh. Not the worst choice, but it sure doesn't make me want to see the film any MORE.

Ya but can she direct action & this is such a major staple it would make more sense to hire someone more qualified. I don't like say Duncan Jones.

I thought that said Monsters director and it was actually Gareth Edwards, which could be cool. This is just meh. I'm sure shes capable, just not exciting choice.

Well she's not the first woman director to helm a marvel film if you count Lexi Alexander who directed Punisher: War Zone.
As for this news, i loved Monster but that film was very far away from anything like Thor, colour me interested.
