Monsters director Gareth Edwards directs a monster named Godzilla

If you appreciated Gareth Edwards’ low-budget MONSTERS but wished for more of the titular phenomenon, the filmmaker is glad to oblige.

Edwards will tell GODZILLA how to smash cities in the latest variation of Toho’s irradiated lizard-beast. A fitting choice, Edwards will obviously have a substantially bigger sandbox to play with the famous monster and the creatures he battles — the movie comes from production company Legendary Pictures (INCEPTION, THE DARK KNIGHT) and Warner Bros.

Edwards will direct the project and develop the script with a yet-to-be-hired screenwriter (previous drafts have reportedly been discarded).

You may recall that Guillermo del Toro was (erroneously) rumored to be involved with this new GODZILLA. You may also still be trying to forget Roland Emmerich’s GODZILLA.
