Michael Moore has apparently decided on his next documentary subject, which is, drum roll please...GAY! Dammit. I fear I'm being too simplistic. Let's delve into this a little. Moore aims to tackle homophobia in the States and specifically the way it manifests in the Christian right. The following is taken from a conversation Moore had with The Advocate:

“I think it’s a very ripe subject for someone like me to make a movie about. Simply because we are not there yet and it remains one of the last open wounds on our soul that we are not willing to fix yet,” Moore told The Advocate. “There is nowhere in the four Gospels where Jesus uses the word homosexual.’ The right wing has appropriated this guy … and they have used him to attack gays and lesbians, when he never said a single word against people who are homosexual. Anyone who professes to be a Christian and does that is certainly not following the teachings of Jesus Christ.”

I want to be careful here. I have my own opinions on this matter, but I'm not about to start a moral and political firestorm in the talkback section (although maybe it will be healthy for us to discuss something other than cleavage and sequels). All I'm going to say is that Moore should have a rather easy time at making those on the right look quite absurd. He will cut into them like a butcher into horse heart. Presumably, gay marriage rights will be a huge fighting point in the movie, and Moore should have no problem dealing with that. I hope he follows through with this.

Moore slams the right constantly yet he uses the same irresponsible methods they do to get his point across. It goes both ways.

Keep calling the kettle black and lets all take our private jets to Dharfur and pass out bottled water in non-recycable plastic bottles to the starving. Why can't you all do this too you damn common folk with real jobs?

Rant is done.

The Old Testament states "Eye for an eye" and the New Testament says "Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord." So saying that nothing was change from the Old to the New isn't totally correct. There were some changes made, perhaps in the spirit of being better people (can't have everyone seeking vengeance...lol). But I agree with the rest of what you say, FilmSausage.. it isn't our place to judge.

I didn't know Moore was so familar...
I didn't realize that Moore read the Bible, and had a better knowledge of it than Christians (minor sarcasm). I am a self proclaimed "Holy-Roller", but I still get annoyed with Religious people, (you know, Santa Claus instead of Jesus, an Easter Bunny instead of Jesus, etc..). While Jesus says nothing about homosexuals, he does say that he does not change anything in the law of the Old Covenant.

While Jesus says nothing about homosexuals, he does say that he does not change anything in the law of the Old Covenant. In Corinthians Paul writes about what was nailed to the cross, and it is mostly blood sacrifeces (animal, circumsiscion, etc..) and ordiances.

The New Covenant also takes a stance of homosexuality, in several places such at Timothy and Jude. But since this is not Sunday School, I'll stop now.

The bottom line is, as Christians we should not judge people, only God is the judge. While the bibile may say homosexuality is wrong, it is a sin to say that Gay people go to hell. Everyone has free will, and God will decide in the end (or Allah, or natural selection, or whatever you believe).

I just hope ole' Mikey doesn't use the old "Conservative Christians are redneck racists that kill animals for fun" and maybe show Christians that don't judge people. (Interview me Michael!)

Shut up and squeal
Jesus also didn't mention grown men shouln't have sex with animals and children. Does that make it right? He didn't have to say anything about gays because it was written in the Old Testament (a book he knew a little something about). I wish people who don't know what they are talking about would just leave religion alone.

I don't care about whatever anyone else says. Moore makes great documentaries. And I think he carefully picks topics no one else would be willing to explore.

I have loved every film Michael has made and I am sure I will love this one. Some may not like the way he sticks to one viewpoint, but the accusation that he is somehow trying to sway people by making his films with a singular viewpoint is a mistake.

I see him as a person with a camera and an opinion, and he's not afraid to voice his opinion. no one is forced to believe what he says or thinks. granted, i find many of his opinions kindred, but not necessarily all of them. i thought he was reaching a bit with some of the points he was trying to make in 911, but i was certainly down with the overall message of that film.

i respect him for standing firm on what he believes and translating those beliefs to his actions on film and off. he is a showman, but you kind of have to be if you're making films. he is also a real person who wants to see things change in a specific direction for his country. i admire that.

Moore...phhht...
I'm not a Moore hater, but I mean c'mon people! He's not making "documentaries" he's making one sided, propaganda films that people are accepting as "doctrine". That's not to say that he doesn't have some truth in his work, or that his heart isn't in the right place in trying to expose the baddies of society, but he TELLS YOU WHAT TO THINK about issues, he doesn't present an argument that
I'm not a Moore hater, but I mean c'mon people! He's not making "documentaries" he's making one sided, propaganda films that people are accepting as "doctrine". That's not to say that he doesn't have some truth in his work, or that his heart isn't in the right place in trying to expose the baddies of society, but he TELLS YOU WHAT TO THINK about issues, he doesn't present an argument that promotes thinking and change. By taking such a hard left wing stance he completely alienates the other side, and in the end promotes more bi partisanship and animosity. That approach never creates change (ex:Farhenhiet 911) Now I know that Right Wingers have their major platforms as well and that Moore feels the need to be the crusader to the little guys, it just bothers me to see people look at one side all the time and the side that they agree with.
And he's doing it again! I'm not a homophobe and I do believe we should all be treated fairly but it does talk about Homosexuality in the bible and it does speak out against it! So what is this Documentary going to be about? Taking shots at the other side, reaffirming hatred in America under the guise of exposing hatred. If perhaps Michael Moore was more tactful in his approach and used the powers of persuasion maybe people would accpet him as a true documentarian. Moore forgets this one simple principle:

"A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

This subject needs to brought out into the open and Moore is the guy to do it. I agree when he said it's an open wound that we're not willing to fix, well said. I am not gay by the way. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

I'll just say...
The best reflection of yourself is in the company that you keep.

I think Moore will do a bang-up job. I don't deify the guy but he's been pretty spot-on with his approach. People who are in the far right walk around saying anything they like and while some people might think they're crazy, no one stops them because it's OK to be a loudmouth Conservative.

People only hate Moore because he's

Ahahahaha, Sicko was touching, but I can honestly say I didn't CRY. Wow. Any movie that begins with a man sewing up his leg in his own living room is alright by me!

I gotta say I agree with foxgate2000. Who the hell are they to say what someone does with their private life? And doesn't the constitution protect rights even if they aren't in the constitution? That's part of that little thing called the Bill of Rights...

Good for Moore. If people like him keep targeting key issues and forcing change, maybe we'll have a livable country someday.

I agree with you. Not all of us christians are anti-gay and everything. But I do get sick and tired of JC being used as some pro-hate advocate and although I'm not a Moore fan, his one-sided docs tend to lay waste to the other side, and for once, I really want to see someone stick it the Christian-right. Who the hell put them in charge of our country, anyhoo? I mean... we get separation of

Who the hell put them in charge of our country, anyhoo? I mean... we get separation of church and state, but they have to influence laws with stuff like "God is against gays, so they can't marry"? Or this whole "if you aren't with us you're against us" stance? Last I heard, America was founded on the freedom to CHOOSE your own religion without persecution. Sorry, don't mean to get political, and as you said, that doesn't represent all of us... it's just one of many things that irk me and, you know, as far as I'm concerned, what lifestyle someone chooses is between them and God and not up for any of us to decide. That's my opinion. Thanks for sharing...lol! :P

i'm a fan of moore and his docs, but as a Christian, i worry that the few Bible-beating nutjobs (I call them uber-Christians) will be spotlighted and create a sweeping generalization. not all Christians hate gays, are anti-gay marriage, and are pro-life abortion doctor slayers.
