If you're a struggling writer trying to get published it may be in your best interest to start a young adult novel series. You don't have to take any real time or effort, just throw a bunch of ideas together and wait for some studio to buy the rights to it.  Is there a series that isn't being adapted into a film?

I understand every studio is looking for the next TWILIGHT or HUNGER GAMES but seriously, when does it end?

Coming Soon has learned that The Weinstein Company have bought the rights to BLOOD SISTERS, based on the first book in the "Vampire Academy" series by author Richelle Mead. The series consists of six books (as well as a spin off-series of four more books) and has sold over 8 million copies to date.

The film will be directed by Mark Waters (MEAN GIRLS, MR. POPPER'S PENGUINS) based on a script from his brother Dan Waters (HEATHERS, HAPPY CAMPERS). Attached to star are Zooey Deutch, Lucy Fry and Danila Kozlovsky

And what is the synopsis for BLOOD SISTERS?

"Rose Hathaway develops a mental and spiritual bond with her BVFF (best vampire friend forever) Princess Lissa. The two girls attend a strict school for vampires designed to retain their humanity where it is Rose’s task to protect the Princess. Among the everyday issues faced by teenage vampires Rose falls for Dimitri, their dreamy guardian, and together the three battle the mysterious forces of the evil Moroi who are set on destroying the Princess’s bloodline.‬"

BVFF...I want to go slap happy on whoever came up with that term.

Clearly I am not in the demographic that this is geared toward (and I'm assuming at least 90% of you reading this aren't either) but dear GOD does that sound awful. I'm not a pedophile that needs a good ice breaker so I haven't read the books, and it's probably not fair for me to judge them. Maybe the books are good but I seriously doubt it and I can only imagine how the film is going to turn out.

BLOOD SISTERS will go in to production this summer and has a release date set for February 14th, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: I thought the vampire fad had died out. Shouldn't the girl have a BZFF (Best Zombie Friend Forever)?

Oh good...

...even MORE teenage vampire/wizard/witch movies. Does anyone else feel like major studios think of their prospective audience as a bunch of rubes that will eat up any Derek they serve?

This would have worked so much better as an anime.

Can you guys...

write a "Come-on Hollywood" column on "Get original". Which is the last Series we had that was created originally and not based on Books or Comics??? Adaptations are cool but you can't ignore creating cool original characters for the movies..

WAIT-- chill for a second.

Ok -- to be fair -- I have read this series and it is so much grittier than they have put in the synopsis above. I want to know who the hell wrote this? The producers are morons if this is how its going to be positioned. There is more violence and sex than there is in the twilight and definitely no "glittery vamps". I can agree that the adaptation of books to movies can get tiresome but out of all the young adults stories that are being developed I have to say that I think this the better of

This falls into a popular genre at the moment and if done right could more successful to a somewhat more mature audience. When I say that i am thinking 16-21 age group -- but not the 9-13 year old audience that twilight fans are. I am also sick of hearing ppl complain so much about adaptations. For an avid reader I am sometimes stoked to hear one of my favorite stories is coming to the big screen -- it brings the world to reality. I'm not saying this is one of my favorite series -- but you get the point.

I have read four of the books so far. The production company and whoever they have running their official Twitter and Facebook page are complete idiots. It is like a 13 year old girl is running them. It has turned me off to the movie. If Weinstein bought the rights, they need to get someone more professional on the PR team fast.

To be fair, this is not Twilight and it is not a romance driven series. It is a different vampire "species" and culture. If they make it as kick-ass as the books (I have read four of them), you may be pleasantly surprised. Unfourtunately, I have become utterly embarassed and disappointed in what the official social media accounts are doing. If Weinstein bought the rights, they need to clean house fast. I am also surprised Weinstein has bought into the YA craze.
