More Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law antics in the trailer for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

07.12.2011

At first, the new trailer for SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS hints at what we didn't get the first time -- a cerebral showdown between our famed sleuth and his nemesis, Professor Moriarty. And then it becomes some blusterous thing that seems one giant steampunk spider shy of WILD WILD WEST.

If it's ludicrous explosive period action and occasional cross-dressing you're craving from the brilliant detective and his loyal associate, you'll probably be in heaven with director Guy Ritchie's sequel.

The synopsis: Sherlock Holmes has always been the smartest man in the room...until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large--Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)--and not only is he Holmes' intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective.

As a person who didn't like the first one, the trailer looked damn good and I am excited for the second.

eh. squared

Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the first one. I really liked the cast, but the movie was just boring. I really haven't been impressed with Ritchie for a very long time. Bring back your edge, please. He's been losing it for the past decade. I know there is some of that old school Guy Ritchie left in the arsenal.

This looks like fantastic fun. December is shaping up to be the most exciting month for movies and especially better than what we've had this Summer (Sherlock Holmes, Warhorse, Dragon Tattoo, MI4, Tintin)

It looks fun! I liked the last Sherlock Holmes. I can't wait to see this one and see if Moriarty is well portrayed.

considering the first one came out against avatar and made a shit ton of money...this one prob will, too. the first one is the highest grossing film NEVER to be number 1 at the box office.

I really thought the first one was a mess, so I'm skeptical. ...Yeah, you read that right; bring it on, baby!

This looks like another rollicking fun adventure like the first. I hadn't ever encountered any Sherlock books / movies prior to the recent remake coming out, but after watching that, and then getting into BBC's miniseries, I'm really looking forward to this.

Looks great. Wish they wouldn't have put the 'get that out of my face' joke from the first film in there. I hate when sequels cannibalise their old work.

Hmmm

I was quite disappointed with the first one.

It sort of felt like it didn't know if it wanted to be a Sherlock Holmes story or a Buddy Cop Movie. And so it became far too predictable to be anything remotely Sherlock. It was basically a Lethal Weapon influenced movie, but set in the 1800's, but with less charm and more mumbling.

I'll end up seeing this on DVD I guess, just for the sake of it, but currently I'm awaiting the return of the awesome BBC series to get my Sherlock fix.

What's with the "DUM-DUM-DUM, RAT-A-TAT-TAT" sound effect in every trailer. It drives me nuts. The film looks great though.

Looks like fun

I surprisingly enjoyed the first one, so I'm down for another one. Love the nod at the end to the first movie. Should be a good time!

It looks enjoyable. I really liked the first one, and this one, despite all the action, looks like another winner. I can only hope that, much like the first film, what we see in the trailer is not everything that the film has to offer. Also, Moriarty, so that will be good.

Hah!

Gotta love the fact that Downey Jr. introduces a trailer that's "exclusive to iTunes," and you're watching it on JoBlo.com...

Looks like it'll be as much fun as the original.

My only complaint- Didn't we get that slow-mo explosion scene in the first?

Trailer needed more sexy, the first movies trailer had that great shot of McAdams half naked, Downey in drag isn't cutting it.

Ill see it, but not because of that trailer but because i thoroughly enjoyed the first one.

Perhaps I should fill you in on something. If you ever have a difference of opinion to the majority on this site they thumb you down. Yes. It is pathetic. You're better off just lying and saying you thought the trailer looked great.

No, no, no... what you should have done is phrased it more aggressively, so that you make people who disagree with you feel bad, and trivialize the entire premise for enjoying this trailer as childish and wrong-headed. Your post also implied subjectivity - you should have stated it as fact. Then you should have skewered the site for not living up to your own personal standards of grammar and punctuation (standards which you yourself should violate in subsequent replies).

Hm, guess I should give the first one a shot, because this looks like a decent amount of fun.
