The book of INSIDIOUS is going to be getting a little bigger with a fourth chapter today getting the greenlight from Universal and Blumhouse. Lin Shaye hasn't interacted with enough evil spirits and demons for the horror franchise, and, as a result, she'll be back for INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 4, which will hit theaters just in time for Halloween next year.

Leigh Whannell will once again be penning the screenplay for the next entry in the series, only this time he won't be directing as well. Adam Robitel (THE TAKING OF DEBORAH LOGAN) has landed the filmmaking responsibilities and hopefully will be able to get INSIDIOUS back on track after it seemed to suffer a dip in quality with the last film.

As for where on the INSIDIOUS timeline CHAPTER 4 will take place… well, go ahead and start guessing. CHAPTER 3 was a prequel to the previous two, dating back before Shaye's Elise ever crossed paths with the Lamberts, so is #4 going to keep following an younger and slightly less experienced paranormal investigator, or are we going to hit new events that take place after that pair of early films? Your speculation is as good as mine, so have at it.

INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 4 has been dated for an October 20, 2017 release.
