Move over Snow White, Disney developing a live-action film about your sister

The last time Snow White received the live-action treatment was several years ago in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN in which Kristen Stewart played the young princess. An upcoming prequel/sequel to that film has chosen to ignore Snow White altogether and keep its focus on the other characters. Disney is planning their own live-action adaptation, and much like the SNOW WHITE sequel, the character is getting pushed to the side. THR reports that Disney is currently developing RED ROSE, which will focus on Snow White's sister. Ain't that a kick in the teeth.

RED ROSE, which began as a pitch by Evan Daugherty and was scripted by Justin Merz, will be a revisionist take on the classic Snow White tale which will make Rose Red a key player in the events. The outlet says that RED ROSE will kick off "when Snow White takes a bite from the iconic poison apple and falls into her Sleeping Death, her estranged sister, Rose Red, must undertake a dangerous quest with Grumpy and the other dwarves to find a way to break the curse and bring Snow White back to life." Daugherty is hoping that the upcoming film will feel like a "companion piece" to Disney's animated classic. The character of Red Rose does pop up in Grimms fairy tales alongside Snow White, but in a story which has no relation to the fairy tale which inspired the original Disney film.

While we're talking sequels, THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER'S WAR, the upcoming sequel to SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, will make its debut on April 22, 2016.
