HYPE & MYSTERY

People want to see this movie because of the mystery surrounding the monster. Once a few people see the monster all the excitement for the movie will be gone.

I still plan to see it Friday!

AGREED

There are A TON of people I know who want to see this, and most of them claim THEIR friends want to see it too. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it will be a Blockbuster, but I would expect a very respectable opening weekend gross from this film.

Actually, a lot of non-internetters are digging the idea of this movie.. the mystery intrigues them. I've been hearing the murmurs since it debuted back before Transformers and now that it's a week away, I talk to people all the time who are asking me what it is and if it'll be as good as it looks (I seem to be the go-to movie guy around here)... I'm not saying it'll be great, but there's definite interest.

HUGE INTERNET HYPE DOES NOT EQUAL HUGE BOX OFFICE

Sure the Internet movie geeks are hyping the hell outta out of it, but they only represent a smidgen of the general public. And the marketing effort might end up back-firing on the studios, with all the annoying smoke-and-mirrors and secrecy. If people don't know what's it all about, why should they bother seeing it?

Why is there never a "Who gives a flying fuck?" option? Here's hoping for the fist bomb of 2008.

Fuck Cloverfield

The hype won't pan out. We don't need another Godzilla.
