MTV Classic set to remind you of what MTV used to be

I have no idea what's even on MTV anymore. I stopped watching it with even sporadically years ago when it ceased being anything that resembled Music Television (as it was originally conceived) and turned into nothing but a cesspool of reality TV about teen moms and Long Islanders who for some reason wanted to pretend they lived at the Jersey shore. But that doesn't mean I don't have a fondness for the MTV of old, the one I grew up with, that actually made an effort to broadcast creative, cutting edge programming that was a major part of my formulative years. And so hearing the news that VH-1 Classic will be transformed into MTV Classic and exist to remind of what MTV once was has me feeling a bit nostaglic as to be expected.

On August 1 – the date MTV first launched on in 1981 – the brand switch will occur, as MTV Classic kicks off its start by replaying the first hour the original started with 35 years ago. From there, you'll be able to catch a TOTAL REQUEST LIVE retrospective, followed by a best-of run of MTV UNPLUGGED.

Then you'll be able to settle into watching the likes of DARIA, BEAVIS & BUTT-HEAD, AEON FLUX and plenty more with time carved out on Friday nights for music-specific programming like more UNPLUGGED, STORYTELLERS and even some live performances exclusive to MTV Classic.

If they can somehow muster the courage to give me repeat viewings of REMOTE CONTROL and the ROCK N' JOCK B-BALL JAMs, then I am totally in for this trip down memory lane. I mean, it's not like I'm doing much else, so why not?
