Music video for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’s end credit song “I See Fire” by Ed Sheeran

Peter Jackson has continued to use a themed song for his Middle Earth films, from Enya to Edward Ross to Annie Lennox and most recently Neil Finn for THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. Jackson has enlisted English singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran to contribute a song for THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, entitled “I See Fire.” Today, Jackson posted a music video for the song, which has Sheeran performing the song in a studio with some bits of footage tossed in at the end. Overall, it’s a nice, acoustic song that fits the mold and theme of the middle part of Jackson’s trilogy.

Have a look/listen:

I’m always a little surprised by the use of non-orchestral music in fantasy pics like this, but at this point I’m pretty accustomed to it from Jackson. I felt that Enya’s music fit perfectly in the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy and since then the songs have become a part of the “atmosphere.” Seeing as the source material featured a lot of songs as well, I think it’s a fitting addition to the cinematic experience.

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG hits theaters on December 13, 2013. You can preorder the soundtrack for the film here!
