Music video for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug's end credit song "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran

11.06.2013

Peter Jackson has continued to use a themed song for his Middle Earth films, from Enya to Edward Ross to Annie Lennox and most recently Neil Finn for THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. Jackson has enlisted English singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran to contribute a song for THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, entitled "I See Fire." Today, Jackson posted a music video for the song, which has Sheeran performing the song in a studio with some bits of footage tossed in at the end. Overall, it's a nice, acoustic song that fits the mold and theme of the middle part of Jackson's trilogy.

Have a look/listen:

I'm always a little surprised by the use of non-orchestral music in fantasy pics like this, but at this point I'm pretty accustomed to it from Jackson. I felt that Enya's music fit perfectly in the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy and since then the songs have become a part of the "atmosphere." Seeing as the source material featured a lot of songs as well, I think it's a fitting addition to the cinematic experience.

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG hits theaters on December 13, 2013. You can preorder the soundtrack for the film here!

Wait a Minute!!!!

How about some James Taylor Fire and Rain [link] ?
Joking aside, for myself, the song has too much of a modern feel, not the feel of Enya or the other songs that Peter Jackson used in LOTR.

Nothing will quite touch "Into the West" or "May It Be".

Its a fine song but it feels too normal compared to the etherial and unearthly tone of Gollum's Song or the grandness of Into the West.

Awesome

Ed Sheeran is amazing. Depending on where the second leaves off, I think this is a perfect song.

Fitting and good, but missing the fire underneath this song making it a little boring.

Felt like listening to a Mumford and Sons song, which I feel are a bit overrated. The lyrics are good, the voice is good, but missing that spark which all the other songs had.
May it Be- Deeply beautiful, tender, heavy in it's fantasy theme feeling to the beginning of a unforgettable journey.
Gollum's Song- Dark, sad, despairing, fitting for the sequel.
Into The West- Heartbreaking but joyous, makes you cry knowing this was the end of the trilogy.
Song Of The Lonely Mountain- Very fitting

I See Fire- Hoping there will be more instruments and or a different mix of this song, cause it's good, but a tad bit boring.

It's not a "kid's guitar", it's a tenor guitar. Used a lot in Celtic and other British folk music. Of course, anyone who knew anything about music would be familiar with that.
