Myers on Dr. Evil, Wayne

JimmyO, our man on the scene in LA, got a chance to sit down for an in-depth 1:1 with Mike Myers yesterday afternoon to promote THE LOVE GURU. I was supposed to be able to talk to Myers myself but Jimmy was nice enough to step in and take over for me when the scheduling didn’t work out. Seemed to work out for the best, because Jimmy was able to sit down with him in person and really pick his brain. The full interview is still to come but we thought we’d share some early quotes from the interview on what Myers thinks about what he might do next including word on AUSTIN POWERS, WAYNE’S WORLD and HOW TO SURVIVE A ROBOT UPRISING.

On the possibility of a fourth AUSTIN POWERS movie and a Dr. Evil origin story:

You know, I have a lot of ideas and I have no time. This is one of the things that… these things just take forever. One of ten to twenty ideas… sort of circle the airport [including] another AUSTIN POWERS. I don’t know if I’ll do it. I don’t know if I won’t do it. It’s one of those things… I find it mysterious as to which one get born and which ones don’t get born. So I don’t know if it’s going to happen. I literally do not know what my next movie is and I never do.

On “Wayne’s World” at the MTV Movie Awards:

It was my idea. I really wanted to do it. When MTV said, would you like to host the MTV Movie Awards, I went, ‘Yes. And I want to do a Wayne’s World.’ It was the first thing I thought of. And I hadn’t thought about it in a long time but I just remembered having so much fun doing it. I loved it. I loved doing it.

Could there be a third WAYNE’S WORLD movie in the works?

I don’t know. It’s not likely because it was a spontaneous urge that came out of… if you were to host, what would you do, and I went, ‘Wayne’s World’.

On sequels in general:

There is tons of creativity when re-visiting worlds, and that’s what I do love. In the case of Dr. Evil, I think that Dr. Evil might be my most fun character to do. I love playing the character. I miss playing the character just like I missed playing Wayne.

On HOW TO SURVIVE A ROBOT UPRISING:

That, I am no longer part of.

That’s just scratching the surface of our chat with Myers, which you can read next week in its entirety on JoBlo.com. And while we can’t run a review of the film, I’m told despite the online buzz, it’s actually quite funny! Stay tuned for more…
